It's always such a trending topic these days that I thought we might as well start a thread and let the scenarios fly.
Why? It looks like after months of rumors, the Big 12 is about to invite Colorado and maybe one other. How will this ripple out west and potentially affect the WAC?

I always thought Colorado was a strange fit in the PAC-12. I ALWAYS forget about them when thinking of PAC-12 schools. I still remember Fridays after Thanksgiving watching their games against Nebraska. I wish we could return to some of the conference alignments we had back then (late 80s).
Honestly if Colorado leaves I could see the PAC falling apart. I assume the name will live on, just with a bunch of Mountain West teams backfilling. The domino effect would probably have CUSA inviting at least a couple of UAC schools. I hate it, but I fully expect the UAC to have at least a few different schools in 5 years than we do now.

I agree... I liked the old SWC and Big 8. I think the original idea of the Big East with Penn State should have happened. The ACC should have never went north. The WAC should have stayed the WAC thus the Mountain West should have never happened. The SEC should have stayed the original 10, of course without Georgia Tech, Tulane and Swannee. The original CUSA was great... But we are where we are...

Apparently the Southland is talking about expanding...
Would they try to get UNA, APSU, and UCA?
Would any of us want to join the Southland?
I like the ASUN and the thought of the UAC. But we know how that arrangement can potentially fall apart.
We all know out of the ASUN the only school remotely ready for FBS is EKU. So the rest is hanging. Out of the WAC, Tarleton is the only current ready, even people at SFA say they aren't ready.
McNeese is the only Southland school acting like they want to move.
What if, the Southland grabs West Florida, Valdosta and West Georgia?
Just something to think about. Like I said, I would rather be in the ASUN with the current line up.

To me, UWF is the best fit of any of these schools for the Southland mainly based on geography. I'm jealous of how close the Southland schools are to each other. I don't see them wanting to invite schools that are far outside of their current footprint unless it's absolutely necessary.

Well, The Red Hens and Richie Riches are now officially out...
We stand at 12 until KSU leaves next year.
I predict we will not invite anyone until KSU is gone because 12 is a good number.
The question after they leave is, Do we get back to 12 or 14?
If it was me, and we had the options, I would actually go to 16.
3 football 2 non football.
A current FCS school, West Florida, Valdosta, Tampa and UAH...
Let West Georgia go to the OVC or Big South.
Valdosta fits in better with the ASUN with the Florida schools.

Liberty being gone is the bigger deal to me. Their endless budget from online scam courses was annoying to match up against. But, I do think playing them taught UNA a lot during the transition years.
As far as inviting, they need to do so quickly unless they want a year with 11. Schools have to make plans, notify their conference (sometimes a year in advance), etc. So, time’ a-tickin’ if they want to replace KSU in a timely manner.

I was mainly talking about an official invite, nothing saying they can't be getting things in motion till then. But more on why I think 16 would work better for the ASUN, I know for some reason people are split on divisions, but if we could have 2, 8 team divisions it would help all schools in my opinion. I would have the East division as Valdosta, UWF, UNF, JU, Stetson, FGCU, Tampa, Queens The West would be EKU, APSU, Lipscomb, Bellarmine, UCA, UNA, UAH, and the Current FCS school. In sports that everyone plays, you play 2(home and away) vs your own division and a yearly home and away with the other division. As far as the conference championships, you let in the top 8 regardless of divisions. Also, I don't really think UAH is on the table... but they need somewhere to go because I don't like the way the GSC is heading. Delta, UWA and Miss College can easily go to the GAC with the Ark schools...

I’m just saying like the GSC schools. Since UNA left, they have now put in place a plan to leave with 2 years notice, 1 year notice, or less than that. But the exit fee goes up the less notice a school gives. So, for any GSC to join July 1 of next year and truly replace KSU, they will have to pay conference dues of four years to the GSC. Maybe stuff like that won’t matter, but invites need to be made or the ASUN will be down to 11 this time next year - which may be fine.

Cross Country teams for B18 are legit cross country. How sustainable is it for Oregon Washington to travel volleyball, soccer, golf, cross country from the west coast to the east coast?

It sounds awful. If I were an athlete I’d want no part of it, as long as I had other options. I suppose they’ll sell them on exposure or whatever else. Well, that and the awesome facilities they’ll build with their piles of money.

Sustainable isn't an issue for the schools in these conferences... the only reason they have those sports is for D1 requirements and title 9... Football, basketball and media money fund it all.
