So it’s back to Florence (finally) for the Lions this coming weekend. Azusa Pacific is the opponent, a team that I honestly don’t know a lot about. They are 3-0, but it appears the teams they have beaten are not very good. But, they have held each opponent to 17 points or less, and scored 58 against Simon Fraser - the only Canadian team in the NCAA, I believe.
Similar to the A&M game, I worry that we could be coming into this one a bit “off”. Hopefully we aren’t too beat up (other than Jakobi Byrd) from NDSU and come in here, excited to be in Florence, and ready to re-establish some momentum.
You Shoals people, try to get as many fans to Braly as you can! I want to show this team that we are proud of what they have accomplished so far.

We are bringing two guest all year to home games...and we did also for the Alabama A&M game. People are generally surprised at how good North Alabama football is in person. I just hope Lopez is getting his mobility back, you could tell he really didn’t have much Saturday and even if he did it wouldn’t be enough to change the outcome of that game. Two very good defense played in that game.
I expect our guys to be excited about their first home game. I know we are excited about it.

Today's column from the TimesDaily is below. Important injury information: Jakobi Byrd (thankfully) returned to practice on Wednesday, and is expected to play Saturday. Jaylin Dailey is still questionable to play Saturday with the MCL sprain he suffered in the A&M game. UNA NOTEBOOK: Offense Going Through Growing Pains

Yikes. This isn't a bad team: "North Alabama 27, Azusa Pacific 21 This is a dangerous game for North Alabama as it comes off a loss against the nation’s No. 1 team. After playing 3 consecutive FCS teams, do the Lions overlook this Division II team? Since UNA lost to a team from the GNAC Conference last year (Central Washington), it should understand how good this Azusa Pacific team is. The Lions also have some key injuries, so this could turn into a very tight game. If quarterback Christian Lopez is able to use his legs again Saturday, the Lions should win their home opener. If, however, Lopez is unable to move around effectively, UNA could find itself in a tight game. Playing at home for the first time should give the Lions the edge." Azusa Pacifc at UNA

Ah the old days when you just crossed your fingers and played on.
In 83 Alabama and Auburn played through 2 tornado warnings. In 84 I was in Legion Field when Alabama and LSU played non-stop through a 30 minute tornado warning. We would cheer and then stare at the southwestern rim of the stadium. Made an exciting game incredible! LSU won and the cajuns ripped parking meters out of the concrete sidewalk for souvenirs.
