This was the name they teased three years ago. Sure thought they come up with some different by now. But, cool!

The ASUN Conference and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) football partnership announced today that it has rebranded as the United Athletic Conference. Entering its third year as a formal football partnership but first as a single entity, the United Athletic Conference now fully operates like a single-sport conference with an independent budget, policies, and governing documents. The group will recognize its own league champion with an FCS playoffs automatic qualifier under a singular conference banner beginning with the 2023 football season. herosports.com/fcs-asun-wac-football-the-united-athletic-conference-bzbz/

Reckon he may have done a lot of skeleton making the last few years to where it was easier for the new team to slap some skin on the bones. He is a member of the new team for a little bit and probably still has fingers in the pie.

Yeah that name is far from being creative, but I guess it's not any worse than ASUN, which is totally NOT the Atlantic Sun.
Also the picture of all the school logos just again confirms to me that in a conference of THREE OTHER purple and white teams it is beyond stupid for us to drop gold.

I hope the new Commissioner will go back to Atlantic Sun or A-Sun, which some media outlets still call it.

The ASUN-WAC football merger will be called the United Athletic Conference (UAC). According to the UAC release, the conference “now fully operates like a single-sport conference with an independent budget, policies and governing documents. The group will recognize its own league champion and at-large FCS playoffs automatic qualifier under a singular conference banner beginning with the 2023 football season.” Despite a moratorium on single-sport conferences instituted by the NCAA in 2020, WAC Asst. Commissioner for Communications Jones says the league believes it will pass. “The NCAA is convening a board meeting later this month to address the current moratorium on single-sport conferences, and our football conference is among the items on that agenda. Our combined leadership in the football league is hopeful that in formally declaring a name and identity that it will help spearhead the official effort in the coming weeks by showing that a conference infrastructure is already demonstrated to be in place.” As for its potential to become an FBS conference, The Athletic’s Vannini posits that it’s doubtful because, among other reasons, there is “no interest from the 10 FBS leagues in sharing any College Football Playoff money with another conference.” theathletic.com/4421258/2023/04/17/asun-wac-football-united-athletic-conference/?source=cfbtw

I know it's the name of the conference mentioned back in 2020, but it is curious to anyone else that the name includes "Athletic" and not "Football?" Of course, UFC wouldn't fly branding-wise because it's already well-known but, I just thought that was interesting.

Kind of strange? Name, conference, all of it. As long as we have an opportunity to make the playoffs it will work.

I don't care what the conference is called. Should be exciting football either way.

Update:
NCAA denies United Athletic Conference’s waiver request to be single-sport conference: Sources
* The NCAA has had a moratorium on single-sport conferences since early 2020. * That moratorium is set to expire on June 1, unless the Board of Directors votes to continue it. * The UAC plans to continue moving forward with the conference name and vision, even if it’s not an official conference.
"But the denial was not unexpected. The group plans to continue forward with its UAC name and branding, along with conference awards and schedule this coming season."

I think they all had an idea it wouldn't get granted... I think they are putting their money on that it will not get voted back in after June 1.

Whole thing is weird? I imagine the administration, coaches and players would prefer that all sports compete in one conference. Fans too.

Just more bureaucratic nonsense from the NCAA. The UAC has already said they'll proceed with operating like they got the waiver. So if they can do that without any punishment from the NCAA... what's the point, again? Single-sport conferences like the MVFC already exist, so I can't understand why this even needs to be discussed.
The NCAA these days basically chooses whichever option makes the least sense.
