Either have a football conference like the MVFC or have a schedule alliance. Don't give 1 spot for 2 conferences... I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 division conference with a final week championship series. The issue is the ASUN got an AQ and the WAC don't. The way it reads, they are saying both conferences only have five playoff-eligible teams and neither have an AQ this fall. I thought JSU and SHSU would count as that sixth team for each conference but I guess not. ASUN has AQ thru 2023. They choose to work with the WAC and basically gave up there AQ. From what i heard the WAC/ASUN alliance will continue past 2023. That tells me both conferences know they will lose schools to FBS or moving to other FCS conferences.

They're saying JSU doesn't count towards the six needed for an AQ. Thus, the last-minute need for this alliance again this season. No? If Gumbart put a conference with an AQ in an alliance that would possibly give that AQ to the other conference, then he needs to be fired. EDIT: The ASUN doesn't have an AQ this season is why this was done. Following the departure of Jacksonville State (ASUN) and Sam Houston State (WAC) to the Conference USA, both leagues were left with only five members eligible for the FCS Playoffs — one short of NCAA's minimum requirement.www.richmondregister.com/sports/fcs-football-asun-wac-once-again-join-forces/article_b5c504f8-d703-11ec-9a69-4bf732936bce.html

I kinda thought that was the case, too. But, I guess it wasn't based on the press regarding the alliance extension. I mean, it would be crazy for these conferences to give up an AQ if it was available.

Why is their 2022 Women's Football Roster, and only 1 player under it? It appears that person is male, but I could be wrong. Does UNA want a lawsuit if in fact he is a male and they list him under women's football roster? roarlions.com/sports/football/roster

Who will be the starter at QB? That's what I want to know. There are seven of them currently listed on the roster. I hope the new OC will play the best player, no matter if he's returning or new. But, I'm skeptical of that approach actually being used. It will likely be a returnee because Willis likes familiarity.
The returnees with playing time include:
Jaylen Gipson: Played in four games with two starts last season…Started in the first two games of the season against Southeastern Louisiana and Chattanooga before being injured…Missed the middle portion of the season but returned to play briefly against Monmouth and Hampton…Completed 45 of 83 passes with three interceptions…Threw for 548 yards and six touchdowns…Rushed 32 times for 66 yards and two TDs with a long run of 28 yards…Threw for 350 yards and four TDs against Southeastern Louisiana, completing 23 of 46 passes…Completed a 29-yard TD pass to Corson Swan and hit Takairee Kenebrew with touchdown completions of 40, 47 and 24 yards in that game…His two rushing TDs were in the season finale at Hampton from three and four yards…
Rhett Files: Played in seven games with five starts in 2021…Started games against Campbell, North Carolina A&T, Robert Morris, Charleston Southern and Monmouth…Led team in passing, completing 107 of 177 passes for 1,342 yards and 13 touchdowns…Picked off eight times…Averaged 191.7 passing yards per game with a long completion of 76 yards to Takairee Kenebrew against Charleston Southern…He connected for three TD passes with Kenebrew against CSU…Had a 61-yard TD strike to Dexter Boykin against North Carolina A&T…His lone rushing TD came on a one-yard run against Charleston Southern…Threw for 379 yards and three TDs against Campbell, completing 31-of-46 passes…Threw for 210 yards and three TDs against North Carolina A&T, 262 yards and two TDs against Robert Morris, 235 yards and three scores against Charleston Southern and 254 yards and two touchdowns against Monmouth…Led the Lions in total offense with 1,245 total yards, which include -97 rushing yards…Ranked eighth in the Big South Conference in passing yards and ninth in total offense (177.86)…
Brady Pope: Saw action in five games in 2021, despite battling injuries…Completed 10 of 15 pass attempts for 39 yards and rushed 14 times for 53 yards and one touchdown…The TD came on a four-yard run in the third quarter against Jacksonville State
The new guys:
Brayson Edwards: Played quarterback at Sylacauga High School under head coach Rob Carter…Helped lead the Aggies to the state playoffs…Earned all-county honors in 2019, 2021, and 2022…Also lettered in basketball…
Ben Harris: A member of the football team at the University of Oklahoma under head coach Lincoln Riley in 2021 where the team won the Alamo Bowl…He was a preferred walk-on at OU. Played quarterback at Carl Albert High School under head coach Michael Corley…Led the Titans to a 52-2 record and four Class 5A State Championships in his time in the program…Earned all-state honors…Broke high school records for passing yards and touchdowns… As a senior, Harris completed 67.3 percent of his passes (169-of-251) for 2,215 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions… He also ran for 571 yards and five TDs…Harris put up solid numbers at Carl Albert beginning in his freshman season… In 2017, he threw for 2,766 yards and 35 touchdowns (four interceptions), in 2018 he threw for 2,361 yards and 20 TDs (six INTs), and in 2019 he threw for 2,101 yards and 16 TDs (three INTs)…He also punted three years for the Titans…Lettered in baseball and basketball…
Bradley Kyle: Played quarterback at Decatur Heritage High School under head coach Steve Meek…Helped lead the Eagles to the playoffs and three regional championships…Named two-time Class 1A Player of the Year, two-time Decatur Player of the Year, Class 1A-7A Huntsville Player of the Year, two-time first-team all-state in 2021 and 2022…Broke school records for most touchdowns in a season and most total offensive yards in a game…Also lettered in basketball and golf…
Noah Walters: Played quarterback at Lincoln East High School under head coach John Gingery…Helped lead the Spartans to the state playoffs in 2019, 2020 and 2021…Named Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year after throwing for a Class 4A record 3,402 yards this season with 44 touchdown passes…He completed 65.5 percent (187-of-281) of his passes with just five interceptions… His 340.2 passing yards per game set an all-class 11-man state record for Nebraska high school football…Two-time Super State, Mr. Football, two-time all-state, two-time all-city honorary captain, Husker Land Football Player of the Year…Broke records for most passing yards in a year, passing yards per game, and completions in a game…Also lettered in baseball…Academic All-State and a member of the National Honor Society…

I don't really understand the need for 7 QBs on the roster. My thought is that Held, the OC, wasn't too pleased with what he saw out of our returning guys. Maybe I'm wrong and he just wanted to bring in as much competition as possible - who knows. I do find it interesting that we brought in two guys from out in Held's old recruiting territory, Harris and Walters. He most likely had a relationship with them from recruiting while at Nebraska. That all being said, we have a TOUGH schedule. So the question is do you want to go with a guy like Gipson who might be better than the other guys at this moment, or do you roll the dice on one of the younger guys who have more potential? I'm glad I don't have to make that decision. My gut says Gipson or Files starts, but I wouldn't be surprised if whoever's under center has a short leash. I don't know if Willis is feeling any heat from the administration, but he has to know the fans are hungry for more wins.

Pope likely gets the starting nod. Gipson will probably have some packages too. Hoping some of those freshman can get playing time a couple of games to keep their interest and get ready for next year. Pope had a strong spring being healthy for really first time. He throws it better than most think, although he is quite a threat with his legs. Ready for fall camp to begin, although we just do not get the information we did with McIntyre as the beat writer. Bless his family.

I just want someone who will throw the ball to our guys more than the other guys.

I’m just hoping we can run the football. We can bash the QBs about turning the ball over all we want, I’ve been the worst, but it’s very difficult to not throw interceptions when you’re throwing the ball 40 times a game and the defense knows it’s coming. Also with the o-line struggles we’ve had on top of that…
Gipson or Files will start. They’re the best 2 without question. If Files can cut down turnovers, he plays. He’s the best passer out of all the QBs and it’s not close (Was told this straight from offensive coach). If not they like Gipson’s run element that allows them to do more than Files in the run game. I’ve heard Oklahoma transfer will help us in the future also. Only a redshirt freshman.
