I would expect the athletic director has been keeping an eye on a few coaches. I wouldn’t expect us to make this move without having some potential replacements in mind. I am looking forward to seeing the names that will be mentioned. We are an attractive job. The cupboard is not bare. A few transfers and this team can compete next year. First job will be to keep Shun D, Lacey, Walters, and Harris. Hope we have the hire before the first signing period is complete. Would be nice to have the coach by December 15th. What are the chances that we keep those players after the coach that recruited them gets fired? Hoping Held was pivotal with Lacey and we know Walters. He also is responsible for giving the keys to Shun D in the backfield. All Shun D ran as a freshman were jet sweeps. Coach Held trust him as an every down back. Held sees his heart more than his size. If Held wins Saturday then the players will at least have hope. Saturdays game just got a lot more interesting.

Football is different, but given Looney's track record of hiring, he may go after someone that has no ties to UNA. I honestly believe that is the right move. Hiring someone with connections opens up the "buddy" system and we are hiring friends of friends again. I would like to hire someone from Midwest that can recruit there and south east. The talent in the FCS that have been winning the big games (FCS Championships) has come from the Midwest. The Southeast recruiting gets dried up very quickly due to so many P5/G5 options in the south. True but I’m sure the board and President Kitts will be heavily involved in this decision. Browsing the Facebook comments, there are a lot of people angry about facilities and lack of funding for the program overall. So hopefully people outside of this board are starting to understand that we can't continue acting like a D2 school if we ever want to compete.
I'd love to know what candidates will be told concerning a new stadium. To be honest, I wouldn't blame anybody that's interested for turning the job down if there is no clear plan on having one in 2-3 years.

Interesting. Didn't Hudspeth coach at Navy before coming to UNA? It would be wild if we hired from there again.

I forgot about him!! 15 seasons at one school is pretty amazing. From his bio: A native of Iron City, Ga., and a 1996 graduate of the University of North Alabama, Ingram was a four-year letterman on the offensive line and helped his team win Division II national titles in 1993, 1994 and 1995. He entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant, first at North Alabama in 1997, then at Temple University in the spring. After spending a year at NorthCobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga., in 1998, he became the offensive line coach at the University of West Alabama in 1999, then at Rhode Island in 2000.

Don’t want the Navy offense here. KSU already has it and they can keep it. We would get blown out every game not just beat.

The Dream Team at GSHS:
HC - Mark Hudspeth was 66-21 in 7 seasons at UNA winning the conference twice and going to the D2 playoffs five times including three semi-finals. He won 9 games each of his first four seasons in Lafayette and made history at APSU recently.
OC - Kenny Edenfield was OC during Hud's first six seasons before Troy hired him away. The UNA offenses were on fire with QBs like Will Hall and AJ Milwee. After Troy, he was OC at South AL.
DC - Paul Rhoads was the former Iowa State HC for six seasons until 2015 and has made stops at Arkansas, UCLA, and Arizona since then.
Can we afford them? Not sure.
Are they a great staff and UNA would be lucky to get them? ABSOLUTELY!!

Shinnik would be my top of the list.
Millwee next
Cody Gross (The only 2 UNA guys I would go after)
Offer the top 3 what they want.
Then, I would offer a reasonable salary to one of the top D2 coaches in the country not named Shinnik...

If we can’t match what a high school pays, then just shut the program down. But obviously there are some fringe benefits to living in Gulf Shores. You’re getting me interested in this happening, haha. I wasn’t the biggest Hud fan, due to both on and off-field issues, but if he could win like he did when he was here I’d probably forgive him! Do you, or anybody else know how he felt about his time in Florence?

So everyone in my circles know I am a UNA fan. I have received a lot of comments about the professional message from coach Willis. People have said over and over how impressed they were with his sentiments. Coach didn’t have great success, he wanted too…. just couldn’t get there. He was and is a UNA man. Grateful for his time and one of the best defensive coordinators we had….only one ranks higher.

I just hope that our coaching search doesn't end up like the 2017 Tennessee Coaching Search

(How does the oldest state school get crapped on? POLITICS) (If you don't know what I'm talking about but want to, PM me.) Anyway, I looked back at my call log since they made it public, over 1k... I've ignored more than 98% of them... Anyway, I want to say what I feel about the situation, Willis is a great person, dad and husband. He is a good coach, just not HC... And he should have never been put in this situation.

Too lazy to build a new stadium or keep the school board from railroading us on Braly. Too lazy to conduct a search after Bobby retired, knowing these past 6 years would be the most difficult a UNA coach has ever faced. Lazy administrators, and lazy politicians that never go to Montgomery and fight for ANYTHING for the Shoals, UNA or otherwise. Funding for the university, funding for the roads we have (or don't have)... you name it, the Shoals is probably last on the list for it. I'm tired of it, because I love UNA and I love the Shoals.
