My concerns about an on-campus stadium are 1st parking, and second would there be an ability to expand. Both Jack State and Troy expanded pretty quickly after they went D1. I agree, both are certainly issues if the stadium were to be built over the existing practice field. It's a tight space, hemmed in by streets on two sides and Flowers on the third. On parking, I wish they'd give consideration to another deck. If enrollment were to grow (as they want/expect it to) to 5 digits over the next decade, where will all those people park? There's enough room on the lot directly behind Flowers to build a new structure. I know it wouldn't be cheap, but in the grand scheme of things it seems it would be a logical move. It would serve not just the students, but also as parking for football and basketball. I wonder if there have been any renewed talks with the Mitchell-Hollingsworth people about moving their facility? They move to the ECM property, UNA takes their current lot and builds a stadium, and the football/band practice fields don't have to move. Win/win for everyone. If only this were Sim City, things would be a lot easier.

If only this were Sim City, things would be a lot easier. I do know that Mitchell Hollingsworth will not be buying the old ECM spot now. Especially since UNA bought the Collins(not sure on the spelling) building. I'm sure UNA wants the rest of the property as well, probably the reason the property came up in the rendering of the stadium. I have also been told, if a property one the West side area between Irvine and the old ECM comes up for sale, UNA is going to do their best to buy it. The want the entire west side for future expansion. And to save money, I wouldn't be surprised if they have individual people buying the property's and then turn around later and "sell" to UNA. Yall know as good as I do, if UNA came to a sale, the price is going to be 7-10×s higher than if an individual wants it. I wouldn't mind the stadium being at the old ECM property, I actually think it will be better. The baseball stadium can still be moved, so the practice field is in tact along with the band feild. Then a new soccer stadium with concessions and club house(soccer dressing room) can be built on the old baseball field. And I have been told another parking deck is being planned for campus. And the can use state allocated money for that, if it happens.

Not much of anything not already reported on.

Not much of anything not already reported on. I could be out of the loop, but I had not heard about the additional proposed locations that are discussed. What is everyone's thoughts on that? While I prefer on-campus, I have said that I worry the current practice field/baseball stadium site might just be too cramped for what we want to accomplish. I'd rather not do it there if there has to be compromises. I'd like to hear more about this private citizen and property off Cypress Creek. Obviously that could be a convenient distance from the stadium, and might mean decent access with Savannah Highway close by. The Foundry site in East Florence is also interesting. If the often discussed revitalization of that Huntsville Road area ever took off (especially with the new ROUNDABOUT!), I could see a really neat area with restaurants and bars to walk to before and after the game. And if you drink too much, the hospital is right there. How much better can it get? The ECM property and TVA (yuck) are just non-starters for me. I just don't see either one being a good fit. The Conclusion section of the report really says it all: "While the USW has not been tasked with providing the University a final recommendation, the excitement among students, alumni, and community as these discussions have unfolded simply cannot be denied. The time is right for this discussion to continue, and we strongly suggest that the University take steps to continue this decision process so that momentum for this project is not lost."

I'm on board with using their heads about potential growth. The site needs to be owned by UNA, and enough room for parking and expansion. You may start with 10-12k, but we all know just a couple of home games vs JSU, A&M and others may push us way past that. And, not saying we should at the given time, but as fragile as conference realignment is, we want to be positioned for the beat scenario in the future, if that means build a stadium that is capable of 30k, then so be it. Dont mean you have to start with that or you will ever get to that, but it needs to have the capability if the need arrives, dont get caught scratching your head and let a great opportunity pass.

UNA president to delve ‘deeply’ into stadium reportI’m certainly happy to see progress of any kind on this, but I hope Kitts saying this will be a “long” process is just a bit of deflection. The way they talk, this idea of a new stadium just came up a few months ago. Ideally, I would’ve had the stadium ready to go for at least our first playoff-eligible year. Unless things start moving a whole lot faster that is not going to be the case. At least they understand that on-campus needs to be done if at all possible.

Think the stadium should be for football/soccer/track. Finally get rid of the asphalt track and have the rubberized track and no injuries. Only 15 years behind the rest of high schools...
