Got into a discussion with an un-named person at UNA about the stadium issue. We talked about the scenarios discussed here. I made the comment that I didn't expect a new stadium in my lifetime. With a smile and a laugh, I was told it is much closer than I might think.

With a smile and a laugh, I was told it is much closer that I might think. It is very close to being announced, they have already semi-announced it. When they were talking about the beach volleyball courts and moving the baseball field to Cox Creek. Although they didn't say it, many know why. I have also heard that Flowers Hall will not be home to basketball in the future, after a couple of old buildings on campus are demolished, it will be the sight of a new arena. Just what I have been told. But back to football. I expect an announcement to be made at the end of this coming football season about building a new stadium and shortly after show the architecture drawings or a snazzy computer animation of the stadium. I did throw in my 2 cents on building a small Lion habitat into the stadium just for games. It would be a cool addition that nobody can say they have in their stadium.

Very interesting. Really can't wait to see the stadium announcement.
On Flowers, I know we are probably talking 10+ years in the future at least, since the stadium would have to be done first... but the logical thing to do would be to use that space for a football practice facility. Maybe build some new athletic dorms into it to maximize the value of that space. Or, what if you rebuild a new arena there that also includes football space? I'm not sure how feasible that would be.
I actually think the remodel has really extended the life of Flowers, but I also think we should be proactive in planning a new arena if we want to grow.

I dont know if you can do "Athletic Dorms" anymore. Maybe I misunderstood that but ih think its considered "special privilege" by the NCAA. Anyway, Flowers Hall would still be there, but it would be used for volleyball only from what I've been told. There was a lot more they wanted to do to Flowers but was unable to do so feasibly. So a new arena would meet their needs(wants) in a more efficient manner. As for the stadium, I haven't been told when they will announce it, I was just stating my personal expectations. They may never announce it and just start building it one day. Logistics is going to prove extremely important because of where they are wanting the stadium. It will basically take away practice area and soccer areas until it is completed. And who knows how long it takes to build a stadium, especially when you have our weather.

I think on "athletic dorms" it can still be done, in a way, you just have to allow it to be open to students who don't play sports. I could definitely be wrong on that, though. Obviously doing something like that isn't necessary, I just know that a lot of times with stadiums/arenas there is a lot of space that COULD be used that isn't. Being that our campus is landlocked, I would think doing something like that could be a more efficient use of space. I didn't think about keeping Flowers for volleyball. I wonder what the long-term vision would be for football practice? I think we've all discussed before that it could just be done at the stadium, along with playing soccer there. I'm just not sure you'd want that to be a permanent solution. I think/hope the stadium announcement would be touted as a big deal. It should be. They need to get people excited and make it so they want to donate, since like it or not, they'll be asking for money.

They stuff hold up. Soccer will have their own facility were the baseball field currently is. Dont look at the footprint of Braly, there is more than enough room for both. I just hope however they do it, they blend it in with the style of the buildings on campus.

You can’t necessarily still have “athletic dorms” but I know at UA and AU they have very nice and expensive dorms close to the facilities that are “open to all” if you get what I’m saying here. Lol.

Whoa, that’s totally unexpected on the stadium. I had no idea they were ready to let the public know that they were talking about it. Sure hope we get some details soon.

I was searching Twitter trying to find an update and stumbled across this tweet from the Stetson Associate athletic director.
