Yeah, I see that property being worth more than $300k. If Walmart or whoever wanted to build there, I’m guessing they wouldn’t get the property for $300k. Maybe that was the actual taxes assessed? I have no idea. But the price paid for the property doesn’t really seem outlandish to me.
I agree about 4000 seats, as well. If that’s what they determine as “feasible”, I doubt it will attract any event of note. It certainly wouldn’t draw anything away from the VBC. It might have some rodeos or whatever. I’m not familiar with really anything agriculture-based. I can absolutely NOT see popular music artists coming there to play in front of what would probably be a smaller crowd than that after the stage is set up. As for UNA playing there in that scenario... I mean, I’m sure it would it would be NICER than Flowers. Probably have luxury boxes, all chairback seats, etc. But that’s still beside the point. If this is supposed to be for the citizens of the Shoals, I would still be disappointed.
I’ll put it like this. If they are content for the arena to host rodeos, an occasional comic-con or the like, high school basketball tournaments, and singers that were popular 20 years ago, then maybe a scaled down arena would be the thing to do. But originally it was sold to the public as being a whole lot more.

All could work out fine with this project. But, the rush by some of those in charge to say they're ready to break ground and come to find out they haven't even completed the initial studies (and off-putting lack of transparency) have been the big disappointments.
But, I'm not ready to deem it a failure. I don't even think the questioning folks are saying that either.
We'll see how it works out.

But, I'm not ready to deem it a failure. I don't even think the questioning folks are saying that either. We'll see how it works out. This is all new ground for the county folks. They've never undertaken a major project like this so they are somewhat learning on the fly. I just hope they don't get cold feet. People should know that the old saying is true: You have to spend money to make money.
Just look what Tupelo has done even though the city is smaller and the metro population is MUCH smaller. Here's their 10,000 seat arena and what they have hosted because of those 10,000 seats like The Eagles, Eric Church, Alabama, Alice Cooper, Chicago, John Fogerty of Credence Clearwater Revival, ZZ Top, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Kiss, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Rascal Flats, Sugarland, Tom Petty, the Band Perry, Elton John, Brad Paisley to name a few. They also have a public ice skating rink under the floor.
Now I know the Shoals has some good entertainers but just how many times can you go see them before you become bored to death. I know it's already hit me about 20 years ago.

Interstate is great but Hwy 20 is pretty much non stop to Decatur. That's not the reason we don't have anything. We didn't have interstate when we had Reynolds, Ford, Union Carbide, etc. Huntsville didn't have interstate acess until 1991.
Tupelo had already built their arena long before I-22 was built so it had nothing to do with their growth. They WANTED to grow so they buckled it up and did it. We don't want to grow. Its easy to achieve nothing. Just do nothing. Our leaders have perfected that. They have a "perfect" record.

Just received a political phone call....
It was a recording telling me if I would like to see the Agricultural Center built the way it was originally intended, to contact the state and voice my concerns. They said (with no names) that certain representatives in the state say that it will be a money pitt and because of the VBCC, the Shoals area would not support such an endeavor.
Did anyone else get this call?
I recommend telling everyone you know to call the state and voice your opinion on the matter.

I will have a letter to the editor coming out next week in the Courier Journal promoting the original. If we have a shiny new 10,000 seat stadium, the acts will come here and Madison County residents will follow. This could be our battle cry!

Maybe Huntsville and maybe not. Huntsville would not be the only entity chasing after funds in the fine ethical state of Alabama.

Saw on Facebook that today's Ag Center Meeting ended with folks getting kicked out when the board didn't want to answer questions.

Saw on Facebook that today's Ag Center Meeting ended with folks getting kicked out when the board didn't want to answer questions. The politicians around here are the worst. It would be funny if it wasn't a little depressing. Seriously, how many times has the Shoals had some wonderful project dangled in front of them by a sleazy politician or developer, just to see nothing ever happen? Remember the "tourist attraction" at Veterans Park? Remember the "theme park" in Muscle Shoals (that one died a pretty quick death)? This project? The "Inspiration Landing" over in Sheffield that was supposed to break ground probably 2 years ago, but has yet to, even though the local paper keeps printing fluff pieces with quotes from the developer? Who can take any of these people seriously anymore?
