If I'm not mistaken, the only thing UNA has said is they would like to play some games there. They would pay rent just like UAH used to do with the VBCC. Renting the place is far different than entering a contract to pay for it. Having UNA as a frequent renter will no doubt help the arena but will not endanger UNA.

Anyone go to the meeting or see the video?
The oddest thing I've seen in a while. Who is this Melson guy?

I don't think this is related much at all, but... in an article from the TimesDaily about Florence asking for a grant to finish six-laning Florence Blvd...
"Pettus said with the proposed 10,000-seat Ag Center to be built on Florence Boulevard, there is going to be even more traffic."
Pettus is Danny Pettus, chair of the Lauderdale County Commission.
I'm sure they want to do the project whether the ag center is built or not, but it's good to see they recognize the need for improved infrastructure.

I received notice they were going to widen it in 2011. I was worried what it would do to my business if it took 20 or 25 years to complete as has been the history of road or bridge building in the Shoals.

So, other than events (possibly UNA hoops) what is this Ag Center? What's the purpose of an Ag Center?
Here in Pensacola, we have an arena and conference center downtown where we get concerts, big conferences, etc.
Is that what this will be?

Basically the same thing, but I think 4H and Lauderdale County technical school (trade school) have something to do with it as well. It will be used for what you mentioned plus, livestock shows, trade shows, 4H events. What I was told is it will actually be several small arenas and 1 large arena in one building. Smaller events and conferences will be in the smaller arenas, and larger events and shows, will be in the 10k seat arena.

I was also told that the permanent seating is supposed to be 9k plus or minus but concert seating could go up to 15k.

Maybe we should all go and pressure them to represent the MAJORITY rather than give in to the "squeaky wheel" tiny minority. If they build it as planned, it will be a great addition for the all the people of the Shoals. Even the squeaky wheels will benefit.
On the otherhand, if they opt for a shrunken version, it won't be worth cutting down the trees. It won't be large enough to attract anything of value like Diviion 1 basketball tournaments, NBA exibitions, big concerts and other types of big draw events. It will end up on the proram, "Mysteries of the Abandoned."

Its NOT GOING to get less expensive if we wait. On the otherhand, if they opt for a shrunken version, it won't be worth cutting down the trees. Seems like a great project that's being mismanaged.
