I'm pretty shocked by this but very happy. Coach Champagne is a good guy but we need new blood.

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama will not renew the contract of current men's basketball head coach Bobby Champagne, UNA Athletic Director Mark Linder announced Monday.
Champagne has coached at North Alabama since 2004 and has a 245-195 record with the Lions, including a 58-57 mark over the last four seasons.
"I met with Bobby this afternoon and notified him that his contract was not going to be renewed," Linder said. "I thank Coach Champagne for his service to the University of North Alabama and the Shoals area. I wish him well in his future endeavors."
Linder said the search for a new men's basketball coach will begin immediately.

Hey Rick Pitino is available why not make an offer š.
I see us promoting from within possibly Eddie Mccarter because he has expirence in D1.
I would like to see us go after someone like Andy Kennedy, he is a big name and not really going to get a bigger job right now after being let go at ole miss. I donāt see that happening but would be a huge splash for recruiting and for the university.
A realistic coach would be Mathew Graves that was just let go at South Alabama. He has had I think 5 straight losing seasons but was like 14-18 this year and spent a long time at Butler before going to USA.
Me personally I donāt like Acuff from UAH, I hope we stay away from him.

Hate to show my ignorance, but where was McCarter previously? Hate it for Coach Champagne, but Iām really proud the University acted here. They could have rode out the majority of the transition period allowing us to continue to tread water (or most likely, worse). Itās time for new blood. My first choice would be an Andy Kennedy/Mark Fox or even Mark Gottfried type, but I realize those choices may be a bit unrealistic. Certainly wouldnāt hurt to at least try. Otherwise, go for a young assistant whose ready for his first job. The kind of guy that will want to prove something. Iām not sure if heās ready for a head job, but Antoine Pettway at Alabama is a guy who is pretty well known in the state and has recruited well for Bama. He has a likeable personality and I could see him bringing in some talent we might not get otherwise. Youād probably want to find a strong Xs and Os guy to be his āsecond in commandā.

Mccarter coached at Arkansas Pine Bluff and was also an assistant at UAB. He was assistants at both of those schools. His head coaching experience includes being 45-61 in four years at West Alabama from 2008-2011 after barely having three winning seasons in 14 years as the head coach at DI Univ. Texas-San Antonio.

Hmm. I think Iād probably pass. Head coaching experience doesnāt really help if the guy hasnāt proven he can be successful.
