Better question.. are we willing to buy out the rest of his contract?

One more question: Who would be on a short list to replace him?

They will let him finish in his state retirement... He will probably resign after that. I think he has a couple more years.
What I would do, is find the guy I want to replace him, hire him, put him on staff now.

Another 3-8 or 4-7 record will not be good for fan support. It’s hard to be optimistic for a team that continues to lose games, and lose them in the same way we have for the last five years.
I understand the challenges involved with making the D1 transition, but other schools have done it and looked better than we do in their first playoff-eligible season.
I will say this: I’ve been impressed with the staff’s ability these past few years to keep the team fighting even as the losses pile up. We haven’t had any quitters it seems. Hopefully that means we have a lot of guys who are high character. I want that… but I also want to win. High character guys who are better suited for a D2 roster just don’t cut it.
Long story short - if this team can’t find a way to score some upsets and make VISIBLE improvement by the end of the year, I want to start over.

He has 5 years left if minimum retirement is 25 years. Sometimes in college football you have to be mean. Thanks for your time, but there’s the door. He can go be asst coach at one of the local high schools if he needs the time.

If he has another losing season and they keep him, then this administration is clueless. He’s already set the team back 5-10 years. By keeping him on for 2-3 more years just so he can cash in will set them back 15-20.

Offer him some role in the athletic department if you feel bad about outright firing him. At least then it’s not UNA’s fault if he decides to leave. He’s had 6 years to show us that he’s capable of being the man, and nothing I’ve seen convinces me we can win big with him.

Willis makes it through the end of the year? Yes. No one at UNA has the balls to make abrupt dramatic changes. However, he needs to be fired or reassigned immediately following the Memphis game.

One more question: Who would be on a short list to replace him? As of right now, my top pick would be AJ Milwee.

I’d also consider Shinnick at UWF but it might be a hard sell to get him to move from Pensacola to the Shoals.

The fact that they brought him back this year says a lot. What did he show anyone to think he was going to suddenly be the guy?

Our new AD did have the balls to replace the tennis and baseball coaches. But yeah, giving Willis an extension was a huge waste of money.
