Don't know the answer to your question. Coach Brian Bohannon of Kennesaw State worked under Paul Johnson for 14 years before coming to KSU. That alone could make UNA an interesting challenge for Johnson if UNA approached him. To this Owl fan it would fun to watch two triple options teams in the same ASU Conference compete against each each other. On the other hand, Bohannon and Johnson might not like that match up at all.

Will Healy was just fired at Charlotte. They are 1-7 this year, so I’m not sure he is all that. But, he did turn around Austin Peay, who had been awful for decades before he was hired. He obviously knows this part of the south pretty well.
I’d fire Willis for coaches a lot less accomplished than Healy, at this point.

I thought Hudspeth turned Austin Peay around and Healy was hired when Hid left? Or do I have that backwards?

Went from 0-11 to 8-4 in 2 seasons. After he left for Charlotte, Hud won the OVC with the talent Healy recruited. The knock on Healy seems to be he wants to be a CEO type of coach while being more of a recruiter/hype man. Leave the Xs and Os to others. That’s great, until you hire assistants that don’t get the job done. I think the offense under Held has improved overall since the beginning of the season. I could go along with hiring a CEO and at least keeping Held as OC.

Hudspeth took over the next season and went 11-4 winning their first conference title since 1977 and making their only playoff appearance ever. They won two playoff games that season before losing in the quarterfinals.

If we fire Willis we probably won’t/can’t afford to be picky. I’m not sure I’d hire Healy, because like I said, he admits himself to not being great at teaching. Maybe he’d up the talent level, maybe not. Sometimes all the talent in the world can lose games if the coaching is subpar. Look at Texas A&M this year. That said, I’d at least interview him if he was willing.

Would not take Jimbo Fisher, he has been terrible since Winston and Gus made him look better than he is.

If we’re taking a hint from Looney’s other hires, it will likely be someone with a proven record in D2 as a head coach or some other connection he has from his time in the MIAA and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Think Willis sticks after wining last couple of home games. Does staff stay? Steadman is coaching defense and while they are terrible, Steadman has been a proven coach until this year. Did we just whiff on the transfers and recruiting on defense? Can’t think of an impact player on defense from last years class? Keeping Fields is close I guess….but he was already here. Freshman making plays on offense…..Walters, Lacey, and Heatherly the TE.

Willis has 2 more years on his contract… I just can’t imagine keeping him at this point. By keeping him, it shows you are content with this type of program. Do what you did with Linder and let him teach or be special advisor (even though I would t let him advise the football team).

Change has to come one way or another to the defensive side. The offense has improved since Game 1. Has the defense?
I don't want Willis to return because I don't think he'll ever be the answer. But IF he does, he has to shake up the defensive staff. I appreciate what Campbell has done for us, but it's not working with him as DC. Maybe he can return to the offensive side, I don't know.

Do what you did with Linder and let him teach or be special advisor (even though I would t let him advise the football team). Reassign or pay his measly salary for two years to move on. Otherwise, they are just digging this program into a deeper hole. No excuses! Other teams currently in transition are much better than UNA (we saw that against Tarleton) including first year folks out of D2 like Texas A&M - Commerce and Lindenwood. Willis was 5-5 our last year in D2 after a national title run. That was the first HUGE red flag. Sure, we had injuries at QB. But that was the first of a very long line of excuses we have all tried to give him since then. I’m done with the excuses and the losses. He’s not a good head coach. End of story. Linder should be fired from his reassigned job for extending his contract! Y’all, I am done! Can you tell? Lol.
