Quick thoughts after a few short hours of sleep... - Christian Lopez had a really solid night, other than some scrambles where he should've thrown it away. He was accurate. His receivers dropped some passes that were on the money, though to be fair, the WIU DBs also made some great plays. If this OL can keep Panch from taking too many hits, the offense has the ability to be pretty explosive.
- Speaking of the offense, I think Humphrey and Thompson have the chance to be a solid RB rotation. Our WR group is one of the best we've ever had, but we already knew that. What about Duncan Hodges? I can't lie, I had almost forgotten about him, but he might just be a weapon at TE. Can't wait to see us run a formation that has him throwing from that position.
- We worried about the depth of the DL, but at least for one night, they were pretty darn impressive. Same with our two MLBs. Christion Taylor is certainly a loss, but Jalen Dread played really well. I thought the secondary also did a good job of not letting WIU have too many easy pass plays.
- Can Joe Gurley be our full-time punter and placekicker?
- Those GOLD pants looked great. I know we'll likely mix and match our uniform combinations, since all teams not named Alabama seem to do it, but I really hope we see purple/purple/gold again. Now if I can get greedy, if we could just get the helmet in my profile pic in gold, man...
- Attendance over 10.5k is encouraging. Thursday nights can be hit or miss - no Bama or Auburn games to interfere, but a lot of people (like me) can't make the drive, don't want to keep the kids out so late, etc. I want to see that kind of crowd continue on Saturdays. Will the A&M game in two weeks be the largest crowd we've had in quite some time? It wouldn't surprise me.

Western Illinois had an excellent punter. Bracey was the MVP tonight. He was always right with the receiver and made every tackle that came his way. Reminded of Philbert Martial with his play tonight. We sat close to his family. After the pick we told his dad he came ready to play. Dad’s response “He better”. The fullbacks mom sat behind us, she is very nice and so wanted him to get the ball once, I expect he will get a misdirection pass or something.
Poor freshmen kicker was really pressing. The hype man had the student section fired up. Loved to see them packed out and standing the whole game. Some students came to say hello some people close to us and by 3rd quarter had lost their voice...that’s a change.
Mann at center looks like a solid change. Bracey and Smith were solid on back end all long with Hart coming up for run support.
Least favorite play was the blocked punt for a score....yuck.
Favorite plays was seeing Humphrey bust the long one, Hall taking it the distance, Gurley making the 48 yard FG, and the defense getting the final fourth down stop. Almost made the list the Dread interception return for TD....except he dropped it...maybe next time.

My take away is, we are better than what we did last night.
We looked sloppy at times, and still won.
Too many dropped passes, that our great receivers had with open feild ahead. Could have scored at least 2 more if not for that.
Defense will get even better, and if you are the Big South, that scares the hell out of you.
What's really surprising to me, it seemed like we were a whole level faster than an established FCS program. Maybe they are just slow, but I think we are just that fast.
Hopefully this win vs a MVFC school will sway an extra spot for the playoffs to the Big South, especially if we finish in the top of the conference.
