Very excited about this game! I don't think, however, that our fans will have any clue about them or The Valley conference (outside of NDSU). I hope our media folks are already preparing to hype this game and get folks in seats. Without Jeff, we don't get Eggroll.

Roster on two deep for Leathernecks looks impressive in just physical numbers. Tall linebackers with size, hoping they are slow. NG and DT are pretty heavy for shorter built guys. Shortest fellow on their oline is 6’4? Even the punter is tall at 6’4. Our D Line looks pretty tall....we get much shorter after Evans. I didn’t know we moved Reed to linebacker from safety? He shows behind Evans. The Fighting Leathernecks do not show a TE but do show a fullback. Our TE is really good, looking for big things from him.

RoarLions.com now has game notes posted for the game, including a depth chart. By my count, we only have 6 seniors in the starting 22. Lots of redshirt freshmen and sophomores in the 2-deep. Does that show we have been upgrading our talent level? Or did we just recruit poorly when it comes to third and fourth year players? Doesn’t matter really, young guys these days are coming in better prepared than ever before.
One thing I didn’t know until looking at the game notes, but it answered a question I had been asking myself... Ben and Brian have now been “promoted” to work our ESPN+ games (all home games will be on there). The radio will now be handled by Kevin Johnson and Hamp Moore. Before this I was wondering if we would just simulcast the radio feed on the TV games. Nice to see we’ll have two dedicated teams.
I saw Dr. Moore a lot as a four-eyed youngster. Great guy. Maybe a dumb question, but I’m having a hard time placing Kevin Johnson. Says he’s an alum and a veteran play-by-play guy. Have I heard him somewhere before and just not remembering? I’m usually terrible with names, so y’all go easy on me if I should already know this.

They are usually flexed out, but we'll put them on the line in short yardage situations.

Hi North Alabama welcome to Division-I. UNA has a strong and proud tradition so I fully endorse this move/addition to D-I.
Kudos to your A.D. for starting you out of the gate with two Historically Strong Programs. Montana needs no introduction. Western Illinois however may not be a household name. WIU has a winning record against the other 3 FCS teams in our State (Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois) and has won 6 of the last 10 meetings against FBS NIU with the most recent matchup and win in 2016 with every game at their stadium and with their 85 scholly advantage to our 63.....Oh yeah and NIU went to the Orange Bowl during that time. WIU is formost a football school. Not good at much else except maybe men's soccer and women's basketball.
Wish you the best of luck on your 2019 campaign after your first week. Kidding aside, this has to be a fun time to be an Alum. The Leathernecks moved up in '81 I believe, so yeah, I missed out on that. We were mostly good or OK and then the Dakota Flagships joined and totally raised the bar.
Can't hardly wait till Thursday.
Oh we also have the winning record against MONTANA. They edged us 7-0 in 1964 (ten years before I was born lol) then it was WIU win in '98 '03 and '18.
UNA may very well win this Thursday, I am just adding some perspective that it would be a nice win for your resume.

Thanks neckman. We are excited about our 2nd year in division 1 athletics. We hope to replicate our first game from a year ago defeating the Big Sky champs from previous year in Southern Utah. What a confidence boost that was right out of the gate on the road against a conference champ and packed house. We have a lot of talent, just not a lot of snaps together. Western Illinois is an exciting challenge. You guys also have great choice in school colors too. Game will be broadcasted on ESPN +.
