Interesting. Wasn't really the guy that I expected to get the job, but here we are. I'm excited to see him introduced on Friday and hear his vision for the program.

Cool! I didn't have a favorite out of the Top 5. C'mon back to 'Bama, Coach P!

Prior to his collegiate career, Pujol was a high school coach in south Florida for 13 seasons, including nine at Northwest Christian Academy in Miami, where he posted a 250-46 record with state titles in 1999, 2003 and 2004.
You have to think he'll use his connections there to recruit that area.

And that he recruited the state of Alabama for the Tide.

New era in Flowers Hall, new coach, new floor, restored seating, hopefully a restoration of fans.
No, he was not my first pick, but I didn't have a real problem with any of the finalists, lots of people in the buisness love him, seems like a great hire, if he has UNA at the top of the conference, and #1 in the state, he will be able to get anything (within reason) he wants at UNA, I like the diversity he will (should bring)
Roar Lions dad gum it.......

I can't help but wonder who the choice would have been if keeping a coach from the previous staff hadn't been mandated. It's moves like that that scare me. It's reminiscent of the Tennessee Titans from 2008 through 2015. Not good years.

Glad to see that it is Watson that they are keeping not McCarter. I’m not convinced that McCarter did anything to help Champagne during his years as an assistant.

Since almost all of UNA's best teams were dogged, harassing teams on defense, I was glad to read this:
“I want to make it fun for our guys to play here, but that does not mean I don’t expect the guys to defend because we will hang our hat on defense. If a player doesn’t defend hard then I have a hard time putting him on the floor.”
Pujol said he has already reached out to UNA’s early signees. He wants to talk to his new players in person and will do that Friday before his introductory press conference. He said no decisions on which players will or will not return will be made until he has time to evaluate his new team.

He wants to talk to his new players in person and will do that Friday before his introductory press conference. He said no decisions on which players will or will not return will be made until he has time to evaluate his new team. I'm sure you remember, but Anthony Grant's teams at VCU and Bama were known for playing tough defense. Unfortunately, at Bama at least, there were times when shooting-wise they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, ball movement was lacking, etc. Now - that's not to say it was any one coach's fault, but that's what initially gave me some pause about Pujol. How much of Grant's offense (or lack thereof) can be solely blamed on Grant? That being said - a STRONG defensive team in basketball is a heck of an equalizer when facing better teams. If you can make it ugly, get the other team into foul trouble, do whatever it takes to minimize the number of shots they're taking, you always have a better chance. You just have to back it up with a little bit of offense every now and then. This is not a bad philosophy to put out on the floor for the next few years. Who knows, maybe Coach Pujol was the only one of those interviewed that stressed this, and he probably had the best coaching pedigree to actually do it.

I figured Watson was going to stay. He’s one of the best recruiters in the south. He has an arsenal of contacts and knows how to find quality HIGH SCHOOL players

I figured Watson was going to stay. He’s one of the best recruiters in the south. He has an arsenal of contacts and knows how to find quality HIGH SCHOOL players And interestingly, was a graduate assistant under Anthony Grant towards the end of his time at Alabama. Which, of course, meant that he was there with Tony Pujol. Makes you wonder... this report came out yesterday that we were trying to force the new guy to keep an assistant, who a lot of us (me included) probably assumed was Eddie McCarter. Maybe, like so many of these rumors, that was wrong. Perhaps Pujol was the one that wanted to keep Watson? Heck, maybe that was one of his requests. Also, the TimesDaily this morning reports that Pujol will earn a base salary of $125k, which can "escalate with certain benchmarks". www.timesdaily.com/news/local/pujol-named-una-coach/article_e3312c65-f9ed-5e0e-b05c-d6b7117448b0.html
