Interesting. Any Given Saturday has a thread called Future Schedules. It shows UNA versus Memphis Oct. 1, 2022. Only a 2.5 hour drive from Florence and only slightly longer for me. I can get into some Lion/Tiger game day. Would be a great opportunity for UNA fan base to show up and show out.

Aside from renewing some old rivalries, this is why I'm excited about our move to FCS. Like the challenges.

That's awesome. I'll be there. Although, they announced we had never played. I thought we used to play evey so often?

Aside from renewing some old rivalries, this is why I'm excited about our move to FCS. Like the challenges. My wanting to go to D1 is mainly due to playing schools more like us. JSU, Chatty, Western Illinois, Western Carolina and so on. It will create more fan interest than Shorter, Langston, and so on. To be honest, fans kinda stoped coming to see VSU and Delta. But we would travel well when we played JSU.... But I am excited to get to play FBS schools too. And the opportunity to be on TV more often.

I have a feeling we will have UAB in the future too. Looking at there future schedules, kinda sparse compared to the rest of FBS.

When I look at my handy dandy football program with records vs all opponents 1949-2016, Memphis does not show up. So we have not played them in what we call the modern era. We played football, way before my time on this earth, and discontinued for a very long time. Those days are not talked about. Based on some of the scores I've heard, with us on the downside (in epic proportions) well, I would want to forget those days too!

Very interesting. I like this matchup. It feels like it could be a lot more “winnable” than a game against an SEC school.

They were pretty strong last year losing only to UCF in the regular season. So 10-1. Did lose the AAC championship game to that same UCF team and lost the Liberty Bowl to Iowa State. Based on their location, they should be able to present a challenge to opposing teams every year. I think they just need to be able to maintain a stable coaching staff. I reckon, like a lot of lower tier teams (G5, FCS, D2, etc..), if you have a good coach its gonna be tough to keep 'em on the farm.

You think Will Hall had anything to do with getting UNA scheduled? He is at Memphis now.

I want to agree, but over the past 10 to 15 years, at least in my mind, there has been more and more competitiveness throughout D1 football. FCS (top tier) can play with anybody in the G5 and most of the P5. And only a select few in P5 are top tier. For 1 game, in this case, Memphis, you could see a great game, or even an upset. JSU took Auburn to overtime a couple years ago. FBS schools getting beat by FCS schools are happening more and more frequently. And I feel like it will be even more prevalent in the years to come. I also feel lime one day in the near future one of two things will happen, (A) the dissolve of sub divisions in D1. Or (B) the P5 decide they are even more unrealistically better than everyone else, they separate completely and the G5 and FCS combine for 1 division, and play for their own championship. With the kicker, nobody else can join a P5 conference. Mark my words on those scenarios.

You think Will Hall had anything to do with getting UNA scheduled? He is at Memphis now. Don't know. If he did, my hats off to him. May open some other doors for us. I can see some FBS teams unwilling to be the first to sign up an FCS newbie. Glad Memphis is willing. With Hudspeth being at Mississippi State and Moorhead being a former head coach at FCS Fordham...wouldn't surprise me if we found ourselves in Starkville one day.
