What I'm seeing is that the Southland and OVC will be making a partnership like that of the Big South and ASUN...
To me that means that both expect to lose another football school.
IMO, we may end up with Murray for either all sports or football only. And I'm still hearing SLU and possibly one more Louisiana school is exploring joining the ASUN as well as a possible Valdosta St.
From what I've personally been told, schools are more interested in a bigger conference with divisions that are more regional and still have regular games in the other division for recruiting purposes.

After Liberty and Eastern Alabama Community College exit the ASUN, what is your idea of the Ideal ASUN for UNA?
Mine (purely fantasy)
EKU* Bellarmine Murray State* UCA* Lipscomb Chattanooga* Austin Peay* North Alabama*
KSU* Valdosta St* Jacksonville North Florida Stetson FGCU SELA* Nichols State*
A 16 team conference with 2, divisions for a good 10 team football conference.
I think it would be a hell of a basketball conference as well.

I think it would be a hell of a basketball conference as well. That would be a great lineup, for sure. Football would be a slugfest every year. I think I would prefer just 3 more football teams. A lot of conferences are moving to 14 schools total, it seems. I'd like a 7-game conference schedule that gives us the flexibility to play an interesting non-conference schedule. Though I do see the benefit in 8 or 9 games, in that you don't have to worry about filling the schedule, and you're safe if you lose a school or two to FBS. I'd like some combination of Valdosta, West Florida, Murray, Tennessee Tech, and SELA. I feel like all those schools have a reason to make the move. Maybe Nichols too, just because they'd probably hate to lose SELA. But really, I think I'd be happy with any 3 out of that group. Word is that the MVC will decide who they want to add in January. It will be interesting to see what Murray does if they aren't picked. Hard to see them wanting to go back to the OVC now. And hard to see any school that's left, not looking for a way out if they leave.

I'm going to throw a prediction out...
Don't ack like I'm crazy, just think on it....
Within the next 5-10 years, probably less than 10, all ASUN football schools will be in CUSA. And, ASUN will not be a conference when it happens. Also, Gumbart will be in a high position in CUSA...

I can see the the potential of the ASUN football schools being CUSA East and the WAC football schools being CUSA West.

Looks like on Friday there will be an Official announcement that OVC’s Murray State will join the MVC.
Could there also be an announcement that the Murray State football will be joining the ASUN.

If the MVFC does not accept Murray State, the ASUN could potentially be a option. When reached for comment, ASUN commissioner Ted Gumbart told Extra Points that the league is unable to comment on school membership issues. www.extrapointsmb.com/breaking-mvc-expected-to-add-murray-state-uic/

I'm guessing the Dakota schools could be throwing their weight around to keep Murray out. The MVFC already has 11 teams. The Dakotas probably don't want the added travel to Kentucky, or another team that isn't very good, or just another team period. Since the Dakotas are all in the Summit League, they can do that and not have to worry about sharing the conference with Murray's Olympic teams. Now that's all pure speculation on my part, but it makes some sense.
I know Murray isn't what the ASUN originally envisioned as a member. But it gets us back to the minimum of six teams after JSU leaves. It makes a whole lot of sense just to roll with that while continuing to look for other full-sports schools.

Someone mentioned that when the OVC partnership with the Southland for football was announced, all OVC schools put it on their websites except for Tenn Tech and SEMO... Im not saying it means anything, but I know at some point, both have been mentioned as possible ASUN schools....

That's definitely interesting. I noticed that Murray is expected to join the MVC for this coming fall, instead of 2023. If that's true, I would assume their football is needing a home for next season (or that they want out of the OVC as quickly as they can). Meanwhile the ASUN has still not released a 2022 schedule, and we only have four games that have been announced for next season. Long story short, I'm thinking Murray will be a part of the ASUN schedule this fall. And even with that, we still need another game. If Murray is indeed part of the ASUN this fall, the OVC is left with only five teams. The Southland also only has five teams, though I believe Texas A&M-Commerce is beginning their transition. I think the NCAA would grant them both exemptions to keep their playoff spots, but I guess the NCAA COULD force them to team up like the WAC did this year with UCA/EKU/JSU. It kinda kicks the can down the road a bit on figuring out how the playoffs will work, since the ASUN would be a new autobid and the Southland/OVC would be losing one between them. Things that make you go hmm...

Under kinda OT but kinda not; yesterday I was driving east on US 72 between Madison and Huntsville and saw a billboard advertising Tennessee Tech. That is new for this neck of the woods.
