I don’t know how much “inside info” you could consider this to be, but here goes.
Went to dinner with my wife’s extended family today, where my wife’s cousin (a recent Tennessee Tech grad) brought her new boyfriend. I spoke to the boyfriend for a few minutes, since he had mentioned something football related. Turns out he has both a father and brother who referee multiple sports in the area (southeast TN and north GA), even some college sports he said. I brought up going to UNA and how I heard a rumor Tech could be joining the ASUN. He said he knew for a fact that was true. I meant to press him more on that, but the conversation was interrupted, and he had to leave to go to his own family event before we could talk any more.
So yeah. Just met the guy, don’t know how reliable he is, but he seemed to be pretty confident in what he told me.

Tech is in consideration, so is Martin.
I would pick Tech over Martin personally. My first cousin graduated from TTU.
Little info, I love Cookville, but if we want to complain about Braly, TTUs stadium is a dump compared. I've been there multiple times. It's sucks.
The only problem I have is, how many purple schools can one conference have?
What I'm hearing mostly is TTU, Murray St, and Valdosta St. And possibly West Georgia.
Lincoln Memorial and Queens are two non football schools being considered.

Not ASUN, but word is that a Grand Valley State recruit was telling people that GVSU will be playing in the OVC in 2023.
I have to imagine that if that happens, they'll be looking to get into the MVFC just as soon as they can. But the OVC needs teams any way they can find them.
Wish we could hear something definitive on the ASUN schedule for next year. I suppose the window for adding teams for 2022 is closing pretty fast.

Maybe going up there would help them pull in others and get out of the South...

I see it’s a big topic on the D2 board. Wow! That would be great!

Matt Brown over on the CSN board says that Murray State, along with several other schools, will be making presentations to the Missouri Valley Conference on December 19th. The assumption is that invitations to whatever school or schools they choose would go out shortly after. Then those schools would probably have a Board of Trustees meeting to confirm the invitation. So, maybe late December? Early January?
My guess is that will start the dominoes. If the MVC picks bigger-market schools over Murray, will the ASUN invite them? I still think they would be my top choice, even if their football isn’t great.

Going on a hunch, strictly me thinking...
The ASUN will replace JSU and Liberty with one of the following scenarios...
(A) wait to see what Murray does and if they don't get the invite to the MVC, they come to the ASUN. They will rejoin traditional rivals and play in a more competitive, better recruiting area ASUN.
(B) if Murray gets the MVC invite, the next invite it to either Tennessee Tech or SELA, my bet would be SELA.
That will be the extent of expansion for a while until 14 is the number, then Valdosta St and possibly Queens or Lincoln Memorial will be invited. But right now, we only have to replace 1 because before we would have been at 13 with APSU coming in. So Murray is positively who we are waiting on. They give us 6 football schools with an AQ.
Then we play a season after JSU and Liberty leave before inviting someone else, (probably SELA) and VSU for 14.
That gives 8 football schools, with the possibility of North Florida starting football and an easy North/South divisional split instead of East and West.
Potential ASUN
North
EKU# Bellarmine Murray# UCA# Lipscomb APSU# UNA#
South
KSU# VSU# SELA# UNF(#) JU Stetson FGCU
#=FOOTBALL (#)=Possible Football
I think this is best case for ASUN to be one of the best mid major conferences in the country in all sports.
The only thing that could be different is west Florida replacing VSU. And TTU if Murray goes MVC.

Little Rock's president has requested that they join the OVC, so that's all but official. They don't have football, so IF Murray and/or Tennessee Tech (or anyone else with football) is about to leave, this seems to indicate they are content with becoming a non-football conference.
I wonder what the chances are if a.) Murray goes to the MVC/MVFC, and b.) TTU joins the ASUN, that we offer some football affiliate spots to teams like UT-Martin and Southeast Missouri? I'm not necessarily saying it's a good idea, because you run the risk of looking like OVC 2.0. But perhaps it could help with scheduling until whatever potential D2 teams make the jump to the ASUN?
Of course, I could be completely wrong and they're just adding Little Rock because they can.

I get the feeling Murray is gone soon, the only question is MVC or ASUN. Little Rock, to the OVC makes a little sense I guess, but if I'm the OVC, I'm going after Western Illinois, Grand Valley State and possibly give Morehead State incentive to upgrade to scholarship football. I would also be looking to another D2 school with football to bring in and have a viable football side, The best case for the ASUN is Murray mostly for Basketball but football as well and then Valdosta State and have 7 football schools. If we can add an 8th later, great. The OVC needs to be focused more in the Indian, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan areas in my opinion. I know that's MVC and Summit territory, but... I'm also hearing Chicago St is pushing strong to add football... They are not the greatest get, but OVC and Chicago State could be good for each other. If they could get GVSU and another D2 football school that may be able to save the OVC even if the ASUN gets another.

I'm hearing that even if Murray gets into the MVC, they want to move football to the ASUN or keep it in the OVC...

If I remember correctly, it was 2003 when the OVC voted to end WKU's tenure as a football only membership. So it would be interesting if that is allowed now.

That's a tough spot. The OVC has to either make concessions to a school that just left them, or refuse to let them play and run the risk of falling short for the minimum number of football teams. I don't think anyone feels sorry for either Murray or the OVC... but it's interesting to watch as an outsider.
