The ASUN will once again try the East-West division format for the 2023-24 basketball season. From the article: The conference released the league schedule for its 12 men’s teams on Thursday. Like the ASUN announced with the women’s slate on Wednesday, the men’s teams will play 16 conference games, including 10 against divisional opponents that will be home-and-homes. The other six will cross-division matchups. The top five teams from each division will make the ASUN tournament. The first round begins March 4 with the final set for March 10. The ASUN introduced divisions for the first time since 2002-03 in 2020-21, but did away with them last season. … North Alabama will be in the West, along with Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky and Lipscomb. www.timesdaily.com/sports/una-men-back-in-asun-west-for-basketball-season/

I was pleasantly surprised by the students last year. I really hope we see MORE of them involved this year. I’ve heard and read on this board that Flowers was a great environment back in the 70s and 80s. And to be fair, I remember the year we went to the Elite Eight (2007?), we had some good crowds for the games I attended. So there’s no reason we CAN’T pack Flowers and be loud. We really need the students to realize this is a D1 school they’re attending. Take advantage of it! There are so many games I didn’t get to attend while at UNA, due to working or being lazy or just whatever, and I regret it.

As an online viewer, it appears that the best atmosphere is the beginning and end of the season. The absolute best is when the women play during the day in front of elementary school kids. Amazing energy. They are so excited! The other is when the football team shows up for important games late in the year. They bring a lot of energy always. But, yes, the student section was fun last year. But that side still looks pretty sad on broadcasts because of the empty seats behind the opposing team. I almost wish they’d flip it and fill that in with all UNA fans. I’m hoping that’s considered in the new stadium. The cameras need to point towards UNA fans and not away from them.

The seating is another small (or maybe not so small) marketing thing we so far haven't seemed to understand. Ok, our arena is small. How can you convince a kid that's not a big deal? If they can watch your game and see loud, passionate fans and a lot of them. Maybe there's a reason we have so far been content with showing a bunch of empty seats. I'd love to hear it, if so. If it were me I'd fill the entire TV side with students, and ask people if they want to move down to those seats if they aren't full. The opposing fans needs to sit up top, like they would in almost any gym. We can't have D2 hospitality anymore. D1 athletics is too much of a business for that, like it or not.

Got to love a good team-building experience. But on that note, I wonder if we will add any more players before the season starts (if that's even possible at this point)? RoarLions.com only shows us with 9 on the roster. That's a little scary. A couple of injuries and things get dicey.

None of the new guys are listed on there yet.
