I think any news released by the athletic department about current or future facilities would be welcomed. No news isn’t always good news….especially in the case of a D1 college trying to catch up.

With the way FBOE and UNA have worked together, I don't see them selling Braly...

With the way FBOE and UNA have worked together, I don't see them selling Braly... We need some pro-UNA folks on that board regardless of the stadium. When are the next elections?

Went with second option simply because Braly is an albatross around our neck as things currently stand. Now, if I had a crystal ball and could see 15 to 20 years into the future.... What I'm trying to allude to is future growth of the campus. A continued eastward movement/acquisition toward Royal would put Braly on campus and good planning would accommodate parking. Reality is there is no plan or buy in to accomplish this. So to quit wasting time and keep from falling further behind option #2.

I'm going with the multi sport convertible stadium.
The more I look at stuff with Aloha Stadium, the only thing they did wrong was the materials...
We have a habit at UNA of going with aluminum, and that's why I think a similar design on a smaller scale would work perfect for UNA.
I also really like unique stadiums. Stadiums with character and quirks.
That's part of the reason, I would almost vote for Braly to be renovated, but only if UNA have a lot more control. And that won't happen.

I voted for that option, too. If it could feasibly be done where one facility could truly house football, soccer, and baseball, why not? It would certainly be outside the norm for college facilities. But, then we don't have to build three.

I just want to hear an update of some kind and hear what the university and AD are thinking. Every fan and alum of this program knows we need either a new stadium or a major overhaul on Braly. Why the silence? Why the secrecy? Explain the vision. Give us the options. If money needs to be raised it would help to know what it’s going towards, and what kind of possible timeline we have. Schools all around us are renovating or expanding their stadiums. Why are we standing absolutely still?

Talking to a friend of mine that works with the Parks and Rec at Florence, he has heard that Florence and UNA may be negotiating a deal to build a football/soccer stadium at the sports plex.
There is certainly enough room, and decent parking...

There is certainly enough room, and decent parking... Hopefully that would be UNA buying the land, and NOT partnering with the City? I know the school board is the problem with Braly, but I'd be leery of any partnership. Though it seems working together for tonight's softball game has went well. If they ever build the bridge over Cypress on College Street, at least it would be convenient to get to there from campus.

He was saying,(this is just what I heard from him, an employee) that from what he can tell it would be a joint partnership. UNA would be able to paint field, have any UNA signs and so on. They would also have control over maintenance and upgrades. The way he explained it is, the City of Florence would act more as an investor, and get a percent of ticket sales and food and beverage sales. They would also use the stadium for other opportunities like High School football games, concerts, and possibly a bowl game. I'm not really opposed to this if they basically let UNA use it as their own.

When I look at the satellite view of the map, it's hard to believe how much empty land sits just west of Florence across Cypress and along the river. And how many Baptist churches do you need on one road? LOL. I'm counting five on CR2 between the Sportsplex to where it bends north along the river. Wow! haha.

I mean capacity would have to be bigger to draw a bowl game I would expect.

Wouldn’t think flooding should be an issue out there. It’s just old farm land. I remember hiking to Key Cave a few times, and would start just a little farther out Gunwaleford Road. It’s a decent drop down to the river. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more development on Cypress, but then, that’s probably a good thing. If/when the College Street bridge gets built, I assume we’ll see more businesses move into that West Florence area. The stadium would certainly make that more likely. If a stadium has to be built off-campus, I don’t think that site is a terrible choice.

I mean capacity would have to be bigger to draw a bowl game I would expect. He didn't get that detailed, I doubt that part has even been discussed... at least with the general employees. I would say 20k would be the sweet spot for a new stadium. Honestly it wouldn't need to be any bigger. Most of the issues I've heard from people who really follow UNA, live close and would normally attend games but don't is Parking, congestion in the stadium, and easier access for the older crowd. I know a few people in the Athletic club that just can't walk up and down the hills at Braly, especially when they can't park close to the stadium. That would also be a problem on campus. And it is a problem for basketball and baseball. That's why you see more of a crowd by comparison at softball games. He did say, the football stadium would be football alone, and they would more than likely use an existing soccer field for a soccer stadium... I guess they would just add seats and a press box? I would hope they make it nice and both stadiums could seamlessly blend together. I look at it as an opportunity to make a great atmosphere from tailgating to the actual game. But like I said, this info is from an employee, and nothing has, to our knowledge, been confirmed, but in the proposal stage.
