Uh... wow. We're beating out Memphis for a recruit?! We all talk about facilities and how they need to be upgraded, and I'm not saying that isn't important. But a coaching staff that can successfully relate to players and who players want to play for is HUGE. Man, it's early, but this looks like a night and day difference already.

The only football facilities that aren't up to par so far is the stadium. And its not as big of an issue to recruits as you may think... they only see it from field level, and from on the field looking into the stands, you just want to see a good crowd.

Yeah I think there's some truth to that. I'm not sure how our practice facilities compare to others in the conference or in FCS, but a new locker room HAS to be a good thing. I think the locker rooms at Braly are probably in serious need of an upgrade, but again, you're talking about the players being there a couple of hours 5 or 6 times per year. The negative recruiting might be the worst part of it. You just KNOW other schools say "UNA? You don't want to play in a high school stadium!". You want to believe recruits can see through the BS, but...

I agree, the players want to see the fans. The environment is what draws the fan; a good team (winning), and environment which promotes the good Ole Alma mater (with its colors and logos). Fans want to feel invested and thy want to know their school is invested. It is hard to feel that the school is invested when they offer a high school stadium lacking in your colors and logo. In the long run it is the fans that row the boat. They create the pride, drive the loyalty, grow the student population, encourage the athlete, and help make up for the pathetic state funding of the university.

You want to believe recruits can see through the BS, but... That's funny you said that, I asked a few of the players the question a couple of years ago, two things they said stood out to me... They said other programs would say, well, UNA is a great place, but they can't play for any championships or playoffs. Sometimes the stadium issue would come up and the recruit would laugh at them and say, well, to be in a high school stadium, it sure is bigger and has more fans in it than yours... Sometimes, negative recruiting works against the ones doing it...

Couple more transfers today. Linebacker from Robert Morris, and a nickel from juco. Defense definitely needed and needs improvements.
