I'm afraid we will miss Jeff's UNA reporting badly. He's the best we've ever had.

Don't know if anybody in the Athletic Department thinks like me, but I'd probably make an announcement sometime during this season or even before the first game. That will get people's attention when their thoughts are already on football, and might inspire some folks to go and buy tickets either based on excitement or just because they're feeling sentimental about Braly.
Additionally I wouldn't be surprised if they run a fund-raiser of some sort this season. Though I would think there needs to be an official announcement that a stadium will be built before they do that.

Without a new baseball stadium, a football stadium will not be on campus.

Or was that more of a situation where "we have the land", and you're saying they still need to get the funds together? I would think/hope the announcement would be to say the baseball stadium will soon begin construction, with football to follow. That should still excite people. And if you're doing a fundraiser or a "stadium fund" or whatever, heck... just have it cover both of them.

Most likely there will be a legal notice go out in the next few months for construction bids on the baseball stadium and then the UNA Board will have to award the bid to one of the bidders. At that time it be announced the cost of the new baseball stadium and probably shortly thereafter fund raising will start for the baseball stadium.

I'm sure there are certain legality issues that a State funded University would have to go through before many things can be done. And if announced too soon, we all know those people in Florence who are just looking for something to kick up stink about anything that UNA does. They are probably trying to dodge that as much as possible.

From my experiences of talking with many UNA faithful over the last few years, there is zero to very little faith in the leadership of the athletic department or the school to build a successful program. Because of that, I'm beginning to regret leaving D2. I really hope things change because I believe we belong in D1 but not as an also-ran. Can we become successjful with the current wishywashy skinflints who could care less what the rank and file diehards think, in charge?

I'll say this, on the AD... I felt they did a better job this year than they did in years past. The social media side is a good example. Where the Twitter accounts used to go weeks (if not longer) without updates, all major sports did a good job this year of game updates, recruiting news, etc. It's a small step but an important one.
Obviously I think there's more that could be done. This is a D2 athletic department that suddenly (relatively) became D1. They have a lot to learn I'm sure. Maybe some folks aren't up to the task. If that's true, I hope they move on sooner than later.
You know how they say "you only get one shot to make a first impression"? In most cases that is true. In this situation, I feel like we actually have two shots. Our first transition year went really well, all things considered. Now we have to be working toward that first year of postseason eligibility. That will be our second shot. Every single person associated with UNA athletics needs to be focused on making that season the best it can possibly be.

I would bet we are still shafting the coaching staff. In D2, our assistant coaches were the lowest paid in the GSC. We probably have the lowest number of assistant coaches on staff, by far, in D1. That's not gonna work . First time someone offers them decent money, they will be gone.

That's not gonna work . First time someone offers them decent money, they will be gone. Let's start bringing in more money before we start spending too much money. We will not get a conference check until after the transition is over. By the way, we also get money for football. Over 200k goes to the Big South conference for football, then split among the football schools. All FCS gets the same allotment. But cant get any till after the transition. Let's quit making being too critical and start looking at the positives. They will put together a complete staff and pay better as we transition. At the same time, you dont have to pay as much as some, cost of living in Florence is among the lowest.

We are more like D1.75 now, on our way to true D1. We can’t reap the benefits of being in our D1 conferences other than brand recognition and some big pay play games. We need to be grasshoppers for the next .75 or three years of transition. Enjoy the fun of being competitive without postseason and by the time we are transitioned we will have some awesome new/upgraded facilities/campus. Our coaches seem to be getting a lot out of the players they have and creating some incredible D1 experiences. We need to support the brand Roar loudly about our future D1 prowess. We will have the newest facilities in the state...pretty cool. Always had the best mascots and best colors. I am enjoying the ride. Roar Lions!
