Just going by the A&M game, UNA took a huge crowd to Huntville and got very loud and involved in the game. This year, we will have all D1 home games, including A&M, Western Illinois, Campbell and others, but all D1 games. Also noticed several fans at the Jackson State game, and from what it looked like a healthy amount at both Southern Utah and NDSU.
That makes me think, this year (2019) could be a record year in home attendance. (And if so, expect an announcement for a new stadium) but that's beside the point, I have never looked forward to a football season as I am looking forward to this one...

Maybe, I would hope A&M fans travel to UNA to laugh at our facilities if nothing else...we do not have the nice live scoreboard where you can watch the game from the stands and replays. Nor do we have the bathroom and concession stands on the visitor side. Braly was really nice 30 years ago....not so much for last 20 years. I hope we at least get a high school scoreboard upgrade prior to the next season. The crowd actually get involved by watching replays on the scoreboard and the coaches would know when to challenge. Maybe we should start a please get a real scoreboard fund?

They have better bathrooms on that side and equally good, if not a bit better concessions. I'll give you the videoboard situation, and I think that's in the works as well, but the only think Braly really needs is aesthetic, and if the school board wants to put up the money for aesthetics, great, but I would not drop another dime that I didn't have to into it if I was UNA.

Your last line is key here. If I’m UNA, why invest money in a scoreboard for a stadium that isn’t mine, and that I will hopefully be leaving within the next decade? But it’s a Catch-22, because like 96 says, a lot of schools’ fans (or worse, recruits) will come to Braly and laugh at certain deficiencies. I do think a video board would be the single best improvement that could be made *for fans*. I wonder if there’s any way a board could be purchased that could potentially be moved to a hypothetical new stadium? I don’t know if that would be feasible, but it would at least make it easier to do now.

A new video board will likely come, because of the fact that they are implementing replays in high school football.

With no stadium in the works, we must treat Braly like our own. It looks so dated these days.
We have, at least, four or five seasons worth of DI opponents coming to town. Time to put some lipstick on that pig.

That’s great on the visitor side. It doesn’t look like it driving behind the stadium. Heck no I have not been on the visitor side? We are in Braly for at least 2 years...likely 4 to 5 years. Florence High School should want a better scoreboard, they are a 6A school? They just build a middle school that costs who knows how much? I really wish we could do something about the track too...hate to lose a player due to the track causing an injury. 6 games next year! All D1 games at home! Exciting times Lions fans! Only like 160 days to our spring game and then we start at home on Thursday night!

The only thing the stadium needs(a must) is a large Video Board and some masonry to make the place aesthetically attractive. Yeah, a new state of the art Press/Luxury boxes would be nice, but not necessary for a temporary (hopefully) home. Florence is 7A now. I actually prefer sitting on the "Visitor" side. Although, there is really no such thing in college football. It's better seating, and a lot more comfortable. And you dont have to worry about granny giving you a look everytime your voice goes above a whisper. As far as a new stadium, from what I have been told, it's in the plans already. But I was given no timetable. We do need to show up though, at Braly, and I dont dre that being a problem next year as long as mother nature is happy.

Poor Florence high school football...7A? Florence struggled in 6A...tough. Ready for some good news on the recruiting trail...guess we have 4 weeks to sweat out a few. Thanks for the updates Brandon.

More "food for thought", I'm noticing coaching salaries being mentioned as the coaching carousel season begins.
Jax State - $300K James Madison - $550K

Jax State - $300K James Madison - $550K Anyone know what Willis is making at the moment? I suspect around 200k. As the transition goes, and money (conference revenue, guarantee money and so on) come in, his salary will increase. Also, I'm sure bonuses will come into the equation when we are eligible for playoffs and conference championships. Whatever we do, we need to eventually stay ahead of Eastern Alabama.

I think Wallace was making closer to $100K when he retired. Found this from a 2015 article re: your comment about JSU. I agree with you.
While UNA spends about $957,000 on coach pay annually, D-I Jacksonville State University pays about $2 million.
Linder said he expects UNA will increase spending on coaching salaries by about $800,000 to $1 million as part of the transition.www.florala.net/news/ad-explains-how-d-i-transition-will-affect-coach-pay/article_e15872c6-96a6-11e4-8bb3-870475dcee47.html

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Willis is making around $125k. I may be thinking of Pujol's starting salary, though. Either way, there's definitely a gap between us and the top programs. Though right now I'm more concerned about us only having, I believe, six assistant coaches. The NCAA allows for ten (eleven?). When we start expanding our coaching salaries, the first thing we need to do is hire a full staff.
As far as Willis, I think we're paying adequately. Let's be honest, we hired him on the cheap to get through this transition. Now, say we go 8-3 or even 7-4 next year with the schedule we have - I'd be all for giving him a raise at that point. But while I would have preferred hiring a proven coach to replace Wallace, I have come to understand and accept what we did, as long as there's a plan to increase the money pool for coaches as soon as the transition is over. Maybe it doesn't have to match Jacksonville right off the bat, since they HAVE been D1 for two decades. But the ~1 million stuff probably won't cut it if we want to build ourselves up to an FCS power.
