Definitely and unfortunately the most consistent coaching staff at North Alabama……

If they let him stay on after this season, I may boycott all UNA sports next year. I’m tired of this crap.

Wow… Lions up 6-2 with 2 outs in bottom of 7th. Starting pitcher had been great all night. 2 runners on, lefty hitter up. Starter beginning to struggle at 120 pitches. Instead of bringing in lefty closer to face him, we leave the kid in. Gives up 3 run homerun. When UNA homer announcers are criticizing you, you know it’s bad. Left him in to throw 136 pitches, when it’s game one of a series and we should have full staff available. Hard to understand… That is just flat out unacceptable and deserves firing. I don't believe he deserves to be able to resign/retire. He is known for leaving pitchers in too long. I've heard from some sources Willingham may not be willing to come to UNA, as he has young kids, and the toll of traveling around all baseball season will take time away from them.

Personally, I don’t think Willingham has enough coaching experience to take over the Lions program. UNA needs a proven college coach to turn around this train wreck.

I tend to agree. There are only around 300 D1 head jobs and maybe 15-20 that open up a year. A young energetic coach whose already plugged into the college baseball networks would likely jump at the job. At this point, I’d take a guy who views it as a “stepping stone”, if he moves on in a few years that just means he did good and the program is in a better place.

I would normally agree, but he is young enough to develop his own style, and he has been around many great coaches in his career from high school to the pros that he can do it... And he has coached a lot of championship travel ball teams. I think he is one that has tremendous pride in UNA and will do everything necessary to grow the program into a constant conference power.

Sounds like it might be best if Josh waits to be the next coach.
It’s pretty likely that whoever we hire this time will either use the job as a stepping stone, or not do well enough to last more than 4-5 years. Perhaps at that time JW would be willing to do it, after his children are a little older and he has several more years of coaching under his belt.
Who knows? He might still take it. But if not, I’d like to maybe see an SEC assistant get a shot. Look at what Tennessee is doing this year, maybe see if someone on their staff is interested. They have turned that program around in a hurry.

It’s a destination for young D2 coach or mid major assistant. Any assistant from power 5 would look at facilities and little budget and pass.

It should be attractive to a young guy. No where to go but up + the 4-5 best teams in conference play in the other division. This side of asun conf division is open to be won.

Facilities and funding are the major reasons why Willingham would be a great option. He would get more press and excitement than a P5 Asst. would for sure. But, if he doesn't want it, I hope they find someone with some hunger and passion to turn it around. I mean, even RoarLions.com said it like this: UNA starter Austin Nichols allowed just two runs over the first six innings before giving up three in the top of the seventh. He threw 136 pitches before finally being lifted for reliever John Lundgren.roarlions.com/news/2022/4/14/baseball-lions-drop-series-opener-in-extra-innings.aspx

How do you continue to give abs to some of these upperclassman that are not hitting?

To be fair, a lot of the young guys have struggled as well. No point in throwing them out there and losing confidence if they’re not going to produce.

Only quick fix is change staff and bring in several Juco studs and cut some kids from team. Hard truth, but if you want wins both things need to happen.

Runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs in back to back innings……and don’t score. SMH. This is last post of season. I can’t watch any more.
