I could just cut/paste my post from game 1. Starter pitches great, 7 innings 2 runs. UNA scores 2 runs in bottom of 7th to take lead 4-2. Starter at 109 pitches, his longest outing of season. Of course UNA leaves him in to give up hits to the first 2 batters he sees. Once again UNA announcers who are never critical were questioning it when the inning started. Hard to believe.

I started watching at the pitching change. Sadly, it's now 7-4 Bisons after a homer. I'll turn it back off so maybe things will turn around. LOL. Sigh.

You would think our new AD has a list of possible replacements. There are some good assistant coaches located within our region and state that we could pull from. It doesn’t matter who it is it just has to improve. We have too much of a baseball tradition to continue down this path!

Wouldn’t mind then talking with Heaps at Russellville if he doesn’t try to go back to Hartselle. He is a winner.

You can look at UAB for hope of what could happen at UNA. They have been bad for years, longtime coach retired and they hired a new guy from Sanford this year. He’s got them well over .500 in his first year.
UAB has considerably more resources than UNA, but they also play in a tougher conference (CUSA) and it’s not exactly a destination campus for recruits. Shows what a change in leadership can do. I’m pretty sure nobody thinks they’d be this good if they just kept the status quote and didn’t make a change.

Don't know for sure, but probably. That's what we got to fix, we don't have to pay the best, but we gotta get competitive, not with just ASUN schools, but non P5 schools.

Interesting. Big question is how many years (if any) are left on current coaches contracts. It they have to pay out multiple years of that salary, you can bet UNA won’t be firing anybody.

Lions beat Murray State 6-4. Are now 9-25. One more win and they tie the combined win total from the last 2 years (only won 3 games in the short Covid year).

Im not sure this is accurate... Willis is making close to 200k, can't remember what Coach P is making, but it's more than 40k. Or is that just the baseball coach? I thought said 40s was the high? Maybe I don't know how to read😞

What is interesting, at least to me, is Keene makes more than I thought he did. I was thinking around 40k. He is over 60k in 2019. I know it's not big money, but more than I thought. Here is the thing, we can complain about coaches at UNA not getting paid enough, and to a huge extent, I agree. But the flip side is, at least in baseball, you don't have to be the best and keep your job. (I think he should be fired regardless) my point is, all you have to do is be competitive, maybe we get lucky and make it to the world series one day... But a winning record consistently and strong finishes in the conference tournament shouldn't be abnormal. And. The chance you have a less than standard year, no worries. But when you consistently have bad years and it's obviously coaching, 50k a year is too much.

To me, most are getting paid too much compared to the amount of success they are having with their teams. Lol. That needs to change.
But, yes, to attract new coaches UNA will have to up the ante.

Just stating the facts… assistant coaches around our state/region make more at other universities than our head coaches do… hard pill to swallow but it is the truth… and that’s in all sports not just baseball. We were behind in D2 when we left and we are certainly behind now that we have made the jump to D1…if we want athletics to change around here we have to do our part to help the cause financially.
