Have yall seen the recruits that other schools have gotten from our area? I know Chattanooga got one, and I think KSU got one or two.

Have yall seen the recruits that other schools have gotten from our area? I know Chattanooga got one, and I think KSU got one or two. That’s discouraging. But, I always try to tell myself, some kids like the idea of getting as far from home as possible when it comes to college. It doesn’t necessarily mean our staff did anything wrong. My question would be, are we hitting up THEIR turf for guys that feel the same way? There’s obviously a ton of talent in Atlanta (not so much here in Chattanooga).

KSU have got several from the Shoals area the past few years. And i would assume Chattanooga always has. That ain't all bad, it can add a layer in rivalries. Honestly, KSU/UNA and Chattanooga/UNA need to be good rivals not only for us, but for them.

Remember right now we are at a disadvantage. We can’t sell a championship or playoffs for another 3 years. Each year that will get easier and could be an advantage playing on first division playoff team and be the first to play at Brandon UNAfied Lions 96 stadium. Name may be slightly different? We are doing well in AL and MS, and hopefully land a big one in TN. There are a couple that are committed that have not officially announced on Twitter. Got a chance to close strong with less than two weeks.

But it is what it is, we are going to lose recruits just because they want to get away from home or another school offers something that UNA dont as far as academic stuff goes. We will get there though.

The “playoff handicap” makes me wonder if we will need to lean on some local guys to fill out some spots. You know, guys that grew up UNA fans or just don’t want to move away for college. On the other hand, some of the recruits we’ve already signed, and some of the commits you’ve posted about, are from outside north Alabama. So our staff may not be letting the handicap work against them too much.

It seems like several on this board is stuck on the ideal of not being able for being able for playoff. I hope the coaches in the recruiting that factor doesn’t even come up. I hope they are letting the recruits know about the playing of FBS schools. Even when we become playoff eligible If at least every four years will can schedule an FBS of the P5 caliber that would help regardless of our record in a particular season.

UNA lost all four starters and its top backup from the defensive line, so the loss of Brackett, Foster and McCants leaves the Lions with just six defensive linemen on scholarship this spring.
This does not give me the warm fuzzies.

I dont understand how you have academic issues... it ain't Harvard, Yale or west point people... maybe they shouldn't have been in school in the first place.

I dont understand how you have academic issues... it ain't Harvard, Yale or west point people... maybe they shouldn't have been in school in the first place. Especially since they presumably have tutors, professors who usually work to accommodate football schedules, etc. Unfortunately the truth is a lot of these guys wouldn’t come close to college if they didn’t play football. Some don’t want to hear it, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Willis probably hinted at that towards the end of the TimesDaily article when he mentioned APR. For the last several years it seems we have lost key contributors (or at least quality depth) in the spring due to academics. Hopefully they will stop taking guys that don’t seem to realize they are student athletes.

This is scary. I thought we should have used Weaver more. The academic issues are disappointing and shows some weakness in our ability to get kids in the classroom and study hall.
