Back to back ASun wins for the men! Hmm, maybe Pujols had the right idea with that tough up front schedule? Like what I'm seeing via the ESPN+ this day.
Also, well done for the ladies team.

Congrats to the men for making me feel dumb. A week ago I said our ceiling might be 4 conference wins. Now we’re stting at 2-1 without even playing some of (what appears to be) the conference’s lesser teams.
Roar Lions! What a great day at Flowers Hall.

I've been trying to get my money's worth of ESPN plus, so I have been watching a lot of basketball, especially the ASun. We are not that bad for a first year, new head coach, (basically) all freshmen team. It is extremely difficult to win with all that against your program, Pujols is the right man, and from what I gather, he fits the University and community well. I'm not saying we will win a ton of ASun games this year, but we should be competitive in them. I just think the UNF game was a bad day, I dont think we are that much different from them. And the probability of having games like that is high considering our youth. But our youth is going to pay dividends in the future.

I think the cheaper, general admission seats are behind the cameras. EDIT: Talking about the uppers, of course. Though they aren’t shown on TV as much. Its general seating across the court(upper) also, they make access to the other side harder if that makes scenes. Upstairs behind the camera is General Admission also the end seats at the front of Flowers Hall is General Admission. Upstairs on the side of the players bench is reserved. Downstairs across from the Players bench is Sportsman Club. Directly behind the players bench is the student section. Then from the center of that section is additional for Sportsman Club and what is reserved for the visiting fans.

61-55 win.... Roar Lions 2-0 in the ASun. I'm sorry, 2-1 in conference play. I forgot about the UNF game.... But 2-0 at home in conference...

I goofed with the 4-win comment, especially since I had also said after our non-conference schedule that we should now be facing teams with a talent level more similar to ours - and so far that seems to be true. The UNF game stunk, but hey, winning on the road in college basketball is simply tough. I continue to to have lots of faith in Coach Pujol. If this freshmen class is any indication, he may have a great eye for talent, but seems to be coaching them up as well. So many coaches these days only seem to excel in one of those categories.

I’m thinking they have purchased tickets but hadn’t show up for the games.

Since we discussed attendance after the FGCU games, I looked up the box scores for yesterday...
Women: 983 Men: 908
I really hoped we’d break 1000. I suppose the rain may have kept some folks home.
It’s always interesting to see the women outdraw the men. I can’t say I’m happy since I’d like to see more at both games, but I’m glad people are realizing that women’s basketball can be a lot of fun to watch. I didn’t used to think so, but this team changed my mind last year.

I didn’t used to think so, but this team changed my mind last year. I know a lot of people left after the womens game, but peaple were also coming in after the womens game, so I dont understand the difference. Also, I had some pretty interesting conversations at the game that has shed some light on a few issues we have been talking about on here in different capacities. 1- Marketing, I actually talked to a faculty member, what he said was eye opening. He said that being on campus almost every day, he never had any idea that any game in any sport is going on at a givin time, and the only reason he was there yesterday was because he just happened to be listening to an interview with Pujols on the Boomo Bug show. He also has heard from students that not only are they (for the most part) not informed about a lot of games on campus, but are often encouraged by professors not to attend or support the athletics programs. My wife said that she remembers anti athletic talk when she was there. But the main thing is, there is not much campus involvement to encourage students to show up to games. 2- Purple and Gold, a other person was talking about the lack of gold. We got in that conversation and he said that he remembered specifically in the early 90's about talks to do away with Gold all together. Reason, so many UNA fans are also Alabama or Auburn fans, and they have (at that time) asked the university to reconsider the colors because it looked too much like LSU, and they would not be buying anything that looked like LSU. The dumbest thing I have ever heard, but I seem to think that may have a lot to do with it unfortunately. 3- Pide of Dixie? The same faculty member, an African American man, got into a conversation about the band dropping Dixie. He dont even like it. The conversation covered more than that, and it was a very civil conversation. His first comment was, and I'm not making this up, "Hell, I cant even watch my favorite TV show anymore." I asked him what his favorite show was, "The Dukes of Hazzard" he said he understands peaple not wanting to see the Stars and Bars, but he does not understand the issue with the word Dixie. He said, I dont pretend to be the most educated man in the world, but he always associated Dixie as geography only.

On the POD - it will be interesting to see if Dixie State in Utah keeps their name. Obviously being in Utah may give them more of a pass (not saying it makes sense), but that region was named Dixie because they were able to grow crops we could grow in the South. I don’t think a change is necessary, and doubt many of our students/fans are offended by it, but I’m not sure that will stop a change from ultimately happening.
The lack of pushing athletic events on campus has at least been a problem since I was at UNA a decade+ ago. I don’t remember any professors being anti-sports, but I did have a certain few who would constantly talk about how their own alma mater’s teams were doing. Obviously they have a right to be proud of their school. But I don’t appreciate them pushing it on their students while also ignoring their own employer’s teams. How could marketing improve? I haven’t been in the GUC in a few years now, so I’m not sure if they’re already doing things, but that would be the best place to advertise. Part of the burden is on the students, though. With most of them having Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc., they can and should follow the UNA athletic accounts. I know we’ve griped about those accounts having their own problems, but they at least let you know when the next game is.

I work with a guy that went to Auburn and UNA, he said Auburn was more like a high school when it came to Athetics(in a good way). They would have pep rally for the students, and have other events throughout the week to get the students excited about the upcoming game, and it didnt matter if it was football or basketball or any other sports. That's what needs to happen in my opinion. You have over 7k students at UNA, if you could get half to a game that's over 3k. That would go a long way in the attendance issues. There is what, 40 students in our student section for basketball games?

Other than the POD, y'all are discussing things that UNA fans have been debating online for at least 10 years.
Also, I was told by a very reliable source, that the Athletic Department was in favor of a name change for the band.
