Our first home game in the ASUN begins with the name of the conference, Florida Gulf Coast. We need the biggest crowd Flowers has had in years, possibly decades.
Downside? It's a Tuesday. Mark your calendar for January 8th at 6 PM! We need butts in/out of seats!!
Who can go and who can you bring? I'll be watching from Florida.
Roar Lions!!!

I will try to go. May have to leave work a bit early that day.
I agree that it's important to have a good showing of support that night.

Is there anyway you can post that on Twitter? Feel free to use it on Twitter. I'm just not on there much. Also, my passion is starting to wane. I've tried to share it on FB and even trying to communicate with the UNA Athletics and UNA Football pages to share it. No response. I see they put up an Event Page for it a couple of hours ago. This area of the program is the most lacking, IMO. We need folks in these positions that understand hype is more than Event Pages and a graphic the day of the game. I offer Online Reputation Management services to clients worldwide and I continually shake my head at the institution where I once learned a good deal about PR. Very sad.

One thing about going D1 is you have to act like you're D1. I feel like we're still lacking that in a lot of ways, but definitely internet and social media presence.

I just complained to a friend in the department who's reply was "not very D1" of us. I'm now getting word from the Music Department that the Athletics Department told them they will "not need" a pep band for hoops games in Flowers this season. WTF? I'm furious.

I'm about to have some talks with certain people. Right now, I feel the only people they will listen to is the bigger donors. So I will talk to a couple. I'm also going to send a couple of Emails to Kitts and Linder. So if yall dont mind, make me a list of all the issues so I dont leave anything on your minds out. I'll be sending the Emails tomorrow. Dont have a time on when I'll talk to the others, just have to make arrangements.

Pep bands are a huge part of the atmosphere of college basketball. I've only been to one game this year so far, the November 10th double-header. I noticed the band wasn't there but assumed it was because football had played earlier that day. If this is a thing where they don't want to take up precious seating, I'd worry about that when we start filling the place up. I'm at a loss for what other reason they could possibly have.

I plead ignorance as to how a pep band works. Is it made up of certain members of the POD? Do you volunteer? Are certain folks invited to take part?
I guess I just don’t understand how it can be an extra cost. And again, maybe this is where my ignorance plays part. If the pep band members are separate from the POD, and maybe on additional scholarships and/or financial aid, that can make some sense. Otherwise I’m struggling to see cost being a factor. It’s not like we’re asking them to carry a pep band to road games, just play in Flowers.
What am I missing?

What I understand, currently, is that POD members were paid a stipend for pep band on top of their band scholarship. This is also how UWF does their pep band. I'm not sure on Bama, Auburn, or FCS programs. When I was in the POD, back in the day, it was expected that scholarship recipients would volunteer for some of these "extra" gigs. I gladly did! I loved pep band. Also, when I was a HS student in the 80s, UNA brought full HS bands in to be the pep band every now and then. They would send copies of the fight song before hand.

Former member of POD here. Yes. Members of the band were paid a stipend to be in pep band. This is how it is done at most schools since basketball has so many more games than football, which is just once a week and mostly always on the same day of the week. Pep band is a specialty group outside of the official marching and concert bands that band scholarships specifically pay for. (Marching and concert bands are official classes and the organizations music majors are required by college curriculum to be in as part of their degree. Pep band is voluntary and “outside the standard curriculum,” so a stipend is usually paid to entice band members to participate since it is hours they can’t be working a job or doing other college activities.)
