UWF beat Ferris State today to advance to the D2 national title game next week. They knocked off the undefeated reigning national champs, Valdosta State, a couple weeks back. This is the fourth year in a row that a GSC team will play for the national title. It’s interesting how in D2 and FBS, the best football is mostly played in the south. Yet in FCS, it’s the MVFC, Big Sky, and everyone else (with JMU being the outlier). Since Georgia Southern and Appalachian State moved up, southern FCS football has lost some of its edge. I guess JSU has been the most consistent since then. Kennesaw has been good but unable to get past the quarterfinals. Everyone else is way behind. If Hudspeth stays at Austin Peay, will they become a national power? Can we eventually help fill the void? Certainly there’s still enough talent in the south to build a championship team.

I think App State and Geo Southern are still probably recruiting the same athletes, but more of them and the occasional better athletes. The problem with FCS in the south, in my opinion is that there are so many small, private FCS schools in the South, that may have a little higher academic floor so the athletes that could be the difference go elsewhere, and the public FCS schools in the South, are usually money stricken compared to a NDSU, Montana, and so on. You compare UNA to JSU, and I'm not talking about athletic budgets at the moment, but UNA has a much larger endowment than JSU, and UNA to KSU, KSU has 30k+- students but basically the same endowment as UNA. I never understood what endowment has to do with anything, but for some reason, its always brought up when talking about conference movements and so on.

On endowment, I think in simplified terms in just shows how engaged the alumni base is. A large endowment shows that alums care about the school and are willing to donate to make things happen. Schools with smaller endowments are not as likely to have the money to spend on facilities, recruiting, etc. That’s my interpretation of it anyway. I could be wrong.

UWF just won the national title in their fourth year as a program. Impressive.

We need to hire their coach.

We need to hire their coach. Pretty sure he makes more than Willis. Speaking of, any word on Willis' contract extension?

If they have a good year the first year off of transition, he will be there 4 more years. Just my hunch.

Can the ASUN afford an 11th?
Would it create problems?
The Big South (football) needs to replace Presbyterian... West Florida would do nothing but, bring needed strength to the Big South, and provide UNA a great rival in all sports. It was trending to be a great rivalry before we moved up.
This would be the only school I would go ahead and pull the trigger on the ASUN bringing in as a number 11. Surely the Florida schools, UNA and KSU would vote for them.

West Florida would also have a lot of facilities to upgrade. I think they are quite a few years off before they could really consider it.

They have better facilities than a lot of D1 schools, and a few in the ASUN. As for football, playing in a AA baseball stadium ain't too bad, it's very nice, seemed like a great atmosphere when we played there. And they have plans on building a new stadium.
