Yep. UNA led in almost every stat category. But 13 penalties can be hard to overcome.

I was in attendance of the game, my overall assessment was UNA got outcoached again. It was a decent crowd. Away side basically completely empty other than holding the band and about 10 UWF fans. Crowd was quiet for almost all of the game until the 4th quarter which is usual. Penalties again a problem and some were ridiculous in that they shouldn’t be called. Referees were awful in calling “ticky tack” personal fouls on UNA but then wouldn’t call them on UWF. I understand #4 wanted to make a play on the last punt but the punter had been punting short all game. He and the coaches have to stress the importance of fair catching or at least comfortably catching the punt. O-Line continues to be a problem, especially protection against blitzes on 3rd down.

Have to support a high school game (JROTC) that was supposed to be last night, so will have to follow the game through my phone. What High School? Cordova HS, out toward Memphis

6811 tonight in attendance. This is the worst UNA's home attendance has been in a while. Maybe Homecoming will be more like 10K next week.

I honestly dont think Willis is a bad hire, if we have to be non bias and look at everything equally, (I had to force myself to do this after last season, and I'm the most critical fan I know) Honestly, Willis came into a very weak situation. UNAs favorite coach retired, (huge shoes to fill), it is pretty obvious (at least to me) that Wallace built the program with the National Championship in mind for the "Snow Bowl game" and should have been there 2 time before that season, but luck didn't go out way. And he (in my opinion) retired when that run out. To be brutally honest, the best of what Wallace brought in, was gone last year. Willis is having to not only rebuild, but do it while trying to transition with no playoffs in a tougher division.
Now with all that being said, put yourselves in a coaches position at UNA at this given situation. What I would do is, redshirt the very best freshmen for this season. Why? Because honestly, this year means nothing. Next year means everything. And you would ask, (or tell me) every year means something, and yes, I would agree to a point. But this years schedule is a hodgepodge of games we basically had to scrape together to make a halfway presentable schedule. Next year, the stakes are much higher for a couple of reasons, we play a full Big South schedule, we play JSU. What does that mean? Although we cant make the playoffs, or technically win the Big South, we can (in reality) win the Big South. AND we can beat JSU, our Biggest rival, both of which is huge going forward for recruiting. Now, I'm not saying we will win the Big South or beat JSU, but a smart coach knows this, and is putting his redshirt freshmen on the scout team playing against a very decent team every day in practice this year. Next year they will be a little ahead of the curve when they start or fill in the depth chart. And I'm hearing very good thing about our scout team redshirts.
Assistant coaches, as we all know, a lot of changes have happened in the assistant coaches department this year, especially on the OC and DC areas. Our OC is a first year OC, he needs to find himself. And I'm not sure if Stedman has ever been DC before, but I know it's new for him at UNA, and he also has some growth and learning to get through. So I say, let's see what happens in the next few years before we just write Willis off as a bad hire. Let's see what happens. I remember not too long ago, a new coach had 4-5 years to get the results he was hired to get, you know, so he could get his players and his system in place. I say, let's let that happen. We all know that we are going to lose recruits because of not being able to make the playoffs, so let's not be too hard on the guy for things he cant control. Game time decisions are even (for the most part) decided based on the players he has.
Ad for the game tonight, what little I was able to watch, I saw improvement in some things and not in others.
All in all, Roar Lions.

6811 tonight in attendance. This is the worst UNA's home attendance has been in a while. Maybe Homecoming will be more like 10K next week. It's about what I expected this year. I will be willing to bet that the numbers improve next year. And it's not the worst single game attendance in a while, I've seen worse the past couple of years. (Unless they are cooking the numbers in the books) I remember a few games the past few years you couldn't have filled 3 quarters of the Royal Avenue side. D1 home games will be a difference, and will probably get better year to year, especially after the transition. And we all could do a better job of recruiting fans....

I said before the season that I would be happy with 7-4 or better (with Incarnate Word on the schedule). So, we sit at 3-3 with four winnable games left. How would we all feel about a 7-3 finish?
Bad officiating or not, I do think Willis needs to find a way to cut down on this team being penalized so much. It seems like we’ve had problems with that for years now. I agree with Brandon that we have a bunch of coaches that are learning on the job. I suppose if you are going to do that, a season like this is no better time. The funny thing is, after playing two pretty good D2 teams, and UWF obviously top-ten, I think we’d be in the thick of things this year in the GSC. Not that I’d rather be there.
The question I have now is, can the coaching staff rally this team to close out the year on a winning streak? Yes, they already knew they had nothing to play for, but I know the losing can take a mental toll. Hopefully homecoming can provide some additional motivation this week.

As always, fuck West Florida! I get a feeling that we will be playing them on a regular basis sooner rather than later. I wouldn’t be surprised. A lot of us have talked about Valdosta or UWG eventually moving up, but UWF has not only the Pensacola area but also Mobile within a short drive of campus. That’s a lot of people and a LOT of football talent. I know UWG has Atlanta, but that market is saturated (plus already has an FCS power in KSU). I could see see the Big South wanting them to have an entry into Florida. And even if they end up in the ASUN, the Big South still benefits in football. Seems like a win-win.

Discipline is the major component that’s missing. Coach Willis must gain respect of the players and the players must fear the consequences of making the silly 15 yard penalties. I hope there is a lot of up downs or gassers or something? Embarrassing. I was worried anytime we made a first down or play of any significance that a yellow cloth would be on the ground. We need leaders on the team to be vocal and hold their teammates accountable. We have some great young men with character and high motors...channel that energy into leadership. We win the rest of the schedule as the team matures and adversity produces character and leadership.

UWF beat Ferris State today to advance to the D2 national title game next week. They knocked off the undefeated reigning national champs, Valdosta State, a couple weeks back.
This is the fourth year in a row that a GSC team will play for the national title.

Go West Florida. I bet Valdosta State fans were shocked, believe they were the favorites by wide margin
