I noticed on the Vandy site their girls went a program worst 7-24 last season. As their season opener, could we be catching them at the right time before the truckload of incoming talent can gel?

Notice they said "in state game" not in state rivalry.......
So, it's not just me. I never really thought of Samford as a rival.
But, I am excited about playing them. The more games we play in state, Tennessee and Mississippi, the more our fanbase will grow, in my opinion. And rivalries can definitely develop.

Coach Pujol is absolutely killing it with the schedule. Hey we beat South Alabama somehow with the roster we had last year....never know. I think West Alabama had a legit shot to win at Samford in football last year. I loved watching that game. Samford just made two plays more in that game.

Made the playoffs and lost to Kennesaw. Just confirms what I like to say - the starting 22 for good D2 teams are comparable to those for FCS teams. The difference comes in the depth. But back to basketball, I agree. Coach Pujol must have some really strong ties in the coaching community. I think the schedule he's putting together speaks to him being pretty well respected. Something you have to realize is, yes a lot of these teams probably view us as a cupcake. But RPI is so important in basketball for teams on the bubble. If you assume we are a cupcake, you would also assume that we could hurt your RPI just by playing us. So maybe I'm wrong, but I think these teams picking us up are doing it because of Coach Pujol, and not to just simply pick up an easy win.

You have to realize about RPI, most scheduled, will probably win their conference anyway. Pitt, probably not. And the MAC, I dont know who's good and who's bad. Kinda like the Sun Belt. Humm, I told them nobody pays attention to the Sun Belt.

Gonzaga, for example, has struggled (in their eyes) at times getting what they feel is a high enough seed for their accomplishments. I don't think the selection committee looks too favorably at teams that play 300something RPI opponents. Not saying we'll end up THAT bad, but still. I mean, we're sort of splitting hairs here. A good team likely won't worry TOO much about RPI. But good teams also don't usually play many cupcakes, and especially not first-year programs. So I still think my original point stands, that Coach Pujol is likely pretty well respected (and I think you agree with that as well).

I didn't mean to sound like I disagree with you, I was just pointing out that schools like Gonzaga will be in good shape regardless.

Either way I think we're putting together a schedule that's pretty unheard of for a first-year team. And if even we go 0-30 or whatever (I know we won't), at least we're trying to breathe new life into the basketball program.
