JSU won a national championship in 1985. In basketball? I seriously never knew that. That '85 team was a powerhouse. A lot of muscle on the front line with quick guards. They even had one player to have a good career in the pros. Of course it was in the NFL. Keith McKeller was a starting tight end for Buffalo in their heyday. At 6-4 220, McKeller joined Robert Spurgeon and Robert Guyton at about 230 a piece. They lost their first game of the season and then won 30 in a row. The year before, UNA lost in the Final Four in OT due to HORRIBLE free throw shooting. If not for that, it would have been back to back National Championships for the state of Alabama. FLORENCE - Former Jacksonville State two-sport standout Keith McKeller has been selected for the Division II Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013 and will be inducted on Friday, December 20 at the 28th Annual Harlon Hill Trophy and Division II Football Hall of Fame Banquet. During his four-year career, the 6-4, 220-pound McKeller earned All-Gulf South Conference honors four consecutive years. In addition to being named the "Most Valuable Player" in the 1984-85 GSC Tournament, he helped the Gamecocks to a 31-1 record that same year, including a 31-game winning streak, and the NCAA Division II National Championship. He concluded his basketball career as JSU's second all-time leading rebounder with 1,209 and fourth leading scorer with 1,495 points. In 1986, he walked on with the Gamecock football team, having not played a down of football since his high school days. He immediately became the starting tight end and led Jacksonville State in pass receiving that year, hauling in 26 passes for 449 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts he earned first-team All-Gulf South Conference honors. In the NFL, McKeller became a solid fixture in the Buffalo Bills offense. In addition to hauling in 121 passes for 1,383 yards and 10 touchdowns during his NFL career, he was the starting tight end in four consecutive Super Bowls (1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993). Injuries forced an early retirement in 1993, but McKeller still ranks third on the Bills' all-time list for receptions by a tight end with 121. A few years later, another GSC tight end was drafted by the Bills in the fourth round. .... Moving to add experienced depth at tight end, the Green Bay Packers have traded defensive end David Bowens to the Buffalo Bills for third-year professional Bobby Collins, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced today. The 6-4, 246-pound Collins, a fourth-round draft selection in 1999 out of North Alabama, played in 26 games for Buffalo over the past two seasons, with six starts - four in 1999 and two last season. He has caught 15 passes for 196 yards, a 13.1-yard average, and 2 touchdowns, with a career-long of 45 yards against New England in 1999. The 24-year-old York, Ala., native, employed primarily as a blocker in UNA's triple-option running attack, served as team captain for North Alabama as a senior in 1998, earning All-Gulf South Conference honors while snaring 19 passes for 311 yards (a 16.4-yard average) and 2 touchdowns. "When I (Sherman) was at Seattle (in 1999) we were going to draft Bobby Collins but Buffalo beat us to it. We liked him coming out. He is a very good athlete that has speed and ball catching skills, but he is still a young NFL football player." Collins would wind up in Atlanta. The "problems," according to relatives, he had in Green Bay followed him there and then he was out of the league.

Small forward - Emanuel Littles 6-7, 195-pound Fr.

Verbal Commits shows he had D1 offers to USC Upstate, UNC Greensboro, and Navy prior to committing to UNA
