Tubby Smith, who coached Kentucky’s 1998 national championship team, made headlines this year when he equated transferring to a mortal athletic sin: quitting.
“We’re teaching them how to quit,” he said of rules changes that make it easier for players to transfer. “That’s what we’re doing. Things not going well. Let’s quit.”
Smith was responding to a question about how many players he thought would transfer from his then Memphis team. ...
“Somebody needs to tell them, ‘You made a commitment. Stick to it,’” he said. “But it doesn’t happen like that. They have a lot of people in their ear. That’s the way life is.”

I agree with the above on some of it. Kids now days do jump ship if it gets a little tough or things not going their way. But this is totally different. You have a new coach that is coming in and most of the time they want their own players. The three redshirt freshman and Adrian Smith asked for their releases last week and two have already committed to other schools. I am guessing they didn't see themselves in the new coaches plans or just flat out didn't want to play for him because that's not who recruited them. Champagne did. Or maybe the new coach told them he didn't need them. But either way it was probably a good idea for those 4 to get out early because today all the remaining players except DD Smith and Kendall Stafford were told that they were not needed and that the new coach wanted to go separate ways. So as of now you have two returning players on the team. And 2 freshman and 1 juco [player coming in that Champagne recruited). So does he keep them. Or do they decommit? The big incoming freshman from Illinois got his release two weeks ago. Going to be very interesting putting entire team together this late. But maybe new coach has people in mind and a plan.

I think he'll be able to hold on. I think Pujol has a very influential personality and a good amount of credibility. What I posted I posted wasn't aimed at the UNA players leaving. They know they are not talented enough for D1 ball and would never get to play. I think Tubby is referring to the primadonas of D1 who turn tail if everything isn't handed to them on a silver platter. Some will never understand you have to EARN IT in big time sports. It won't be handed to you.
