....That success allowed every assistant on our staff to earn new jobs. I landed at Jacksonville University with Cliff Warren one of the best and up and coming coaches in the country. Warren is the guy who really allowed me to spread my wings as a basketball coach. The program was making a lot of noise. Two Atlantic Sun Conference championships and a couple of high major upsets, we were viewed as one the “giant killers”. Three recruiting classes in we thought we had what we needed to get back to that level. It’s not easy to sustain that level of success when you have one of the oldest most outdated gyms in the nation and yet our staff recruited multiple first team players, and a couple guys that had a chance to play with NBA teams. Then I learned that when you get a new Athletic Director or a new President there often can be a new vision for your program. Well, we got a new AD and a new President in the same year. So after 3 recruiting classes we were canned, with arguably the best team we had put together on paper coming back. One ACC player, one Atlantic 10 1st teamer & National player of the year nominee and one of the top transfers in the country. I think we would have been pretty good. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Warren

126-150 Head Coaching Record isn't the most beautiful thing in the world...... Almost all of his head coaching experience was at Jacksonville. His first year badly skewed his record. Warren's first year at Jacksonville saw the Dolphins finish the season with only eight healthy players. They struggled to a 1–26 record, the worst performance in school history. After that disaster...... In Warren’s second year, the Dolphins pulled off the biggest turnaround in the country – improving from one win to a 15-14 record and a third-place finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference.[1] The Dolphins reached the finals of the 2008 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament, losing to Belmont. The following year, the Dolphins won their first Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season basketball championship. They also made their first trip to the postseason since 1987 as the Dolphins received an automatic bid to the NIT.[2] In 2009-10, the Dolphins returned to the NIT and faced the top-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils in the first round. Jacksonville knocked off the Sun Devils on a 3-pointer by guard Ben Smith with 1.5 seconds left. It gave the Dolphins their first postseason win in eight games going back to the 1974 NIT. Jacksonville also reached 20 wins for the first time since 1986.[3] In 2010-11, the Dolphins finished with a 20-12 overall record, earning wins over Auburn and Florida. The Dolphins had back- to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1973-74. They were invited to the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Tournament, Jacksonville defeated East Carolina before falling to SMU in the second round. After that murderous first season, he had a great 4 year run including two NIT appearances with one win before tailing off. That being said, he wouldn't be my first choice but this is a good set of candidates. Just for a few seasons, wouldn't it be great to see Wimp Sanderson AND Sonny Smith team up to get us off the ground. The two most successful coaches at their respective schools, a ton of knowledge to pass on to their assistants, an electric charge for fans in North Alabama and beyond, publicity out the wazoo and a fund raising bonanza and a chance to go out on a high note.
