I'm watching the beginning of March Madness and realizing that this hoops vacancy is a huge opportunity for UNA Athletics.
It's easier in basketball (more so than football) to come in as a new coach and make the program yours pretty quickly. If this hire is handled correctly, Lions Basketball (and the entire program) could be on the map much sooner than we thought.
Like when Bowden was hired. It was on every news channel (even nationally) and kept the media attention for a while. Sure, some of you don't like Bowden but he had name recognition and attracted the players that put winning teams on the field after Hud left a pretty bare cupboard.
I hope the "powers that be" take this opportunity and run with it.
This has the potential to be very exciting.

I am all for Tubby Smith. If I was Linder, I would have driven to Memphis yesterday.

I like it. He has been very successful, and a huge name. He was al is born on June 30, so he has to be awsome.

I would sell him on a 4-5 year contract to lead us through the transition. He is currently making nothing. So technically he would be getting a raise. But at UNA, he (If successful at all) he would be a legend, he would draw crowds and media attention and he could retire in a nice low key environment. He could also pass on his coaching philosophy and skill sets to young guys to keep the program successful after he is gone. Even though UNA needs to be successful in basketball, the pressure would not be there to have to compete for National Championships, so he would have that, (not saying he don't need to win, but being Ultra competitive is the key) He would be able to draw bigger name recruits to a mid major program. All in all, he would be able to put his stamp on something, much like Bobby Bowden did at Florida State.

We could become THE basketball school in the state if this is done right.
