I don't think Chris Willis makes much more than what Coach C was making. When UNA rehired Wallace six years back, they hired him (a legendary coach) at $103K. Josh Floyd the Head Football Coach at Hewitt-Trussville makes $120,000 a year. I would say maybe offer Bucky McMillan from Mountain Brook but according to the numbers I keep seeing of what we pay our coaches Bucky would be taking a pay decrease.

But DI basketball is the lure UNA has right now. Pay is not always the main thing for these up-and-coming coaches. Mountain Brook's Bucky McMillan as a college coach one day? Could it happen?

I would love to see Bucky McMillan as UNA's coach. He's won 4 state championships at Mountain Brook. What more does he have to prove at the high school level? If he does become a college coach, he'll probably start small like at his alma mater Birmingham-Southern. Tubby Smith was let go as Memphis' coach today. If I was Mark Linder, I would give Tubby and Bucky a call. I know that getting Tubby Smith would be unrealistic, but Linder did get Terry Bowden to come here, right? We need to create excitement in the fan base. Shit, the students don't even storm the court after big rivalry wins against UAH!

Noticed this quote in an article about DI coaches salaries. Even among the coaches at Division I schools whose teams made it to the 2017 NCAA tournament, salaries range from former Louisville coach Rick Pitino's $7,769,200 to North Dakota coach Brian Jones' $109,273.work.chron.com/average-salary-college-basketball-coach-2102.html

Birmingham Southern ain't a small basketball school. They used to be D1 in the Big South. Someone, dropped the Ball at some point,(I don't know all the details, but do know a few being from the church I am from) and had to drop down to non scholarship and D3. They have great facilities as well. And could probably pay more than we can. But it's not D1. Maybe we could lure him or maybe he has already put in?

I remember the last time the Lions played them in basketball. There was a huge riot and the Birmingham bulls put a beat down on some of UNA's players.

He may be stretching the truth, but I wouldn't think he would have a reason to. And it may be a deal were on paper it's one thing but in reality it's another.

Boden was probably still getting paid by that other FSU, allowing him to settle for less at UNA.

I meant Auburn. Yeah Jeff and Pat Carter weren't being paid anything by UNA that first season. Terry's probably still getting checks from the Plains. Not sure where Carter ended up.

I’m sure most of y’all have seen, but #16 seed UMBC beat #1 Virginia last night. First time a 16 has ever won. This is huge for that school. Heck, I had never even heard of the school until a few days ago.
I’ve long said that I’m not too thrilled about our best case scenario in a given year being a seed so high (low?) that we get pounded by a traditional power. Obviously the hope is to build a program over time, but still. But even me being a bit on the pessimist side has to admit this is pretty cool, and would be insanely good publicity if we were to ever accomplish it. I don’t think UMBC winning means this is likely to start happening every year, but I do think more and more parity will continue to make this possible of happening again.
This hire is so crucial. Big name or not, we have to find someone who can make us competitive.
