If you missed that game yesterday. Go watch the replay on ESPN3.com! It was a great game. Lipscomb got up by 32 at top-seeded FGCU only to have the host team pull back to within 2 (or 3, can't remember) near the end of the game. Crazy fun to watch with no horse in the race.
That said, what kept me up last night was the fact that I don't think our Lions can hang within 50 of those two teams.
I know most of us thing coaching is a big issue but what's it going to take player-wise to compete in the ASUN?

We can play with anyone (ie South Alabama) we will (should) get better recruits, size mainly, but coaching is the main thing. Ask Tuscaloosa.

Opening up with a big win over DI USA and then lose by 20 in the opening round of the conference tournament. Of course, South finished the year 14-17 and 9th in their conference.

We have a sub mediocre team. We started the basketball season playing 2 D1 schools which we split, them played in a tournament, then scheduled NAIA schools for most of the first half of the season. We need better coaching but we also need to recruit bigs that are actually productive that can rebound and protect the paint, and guards that can shoot and play solid defense. We get too caught up in playing small ball with guards that can’t shoot worth a piss or take horrible shots. If it were me I would scrap a good bit of the players that aren’t productive or all in and start fresh

But it seems like he "starts fresh" pretty often which tends to lead to players with no chemistry. Our top two scorers return along with another that averaged over 10 points per game. Need to spend every day this off-season at the FT line, though. We need some size. Period. Lipscomb starts four guys 6-5 and taller. They return all starters next year. www.lipscombsports.com/mbasketball/roster/

Lots of excellent high school basketball being played in Northern Alabama. Talent is close by. UNA needs to be a destination school. I think this will happen with proper marketing, positive talk, plus winning. Doing the little things will help...old farts like me wearing a UNA sweatshirt, having a car tag, license plate, decal, wearing a UNA hat to a local high school game...may sound silly but it gets the school name out there and on people's radar.

If a change isn't made, I can see us losing by an average of 35 points a game. Of course I'm banking on a lot of teams overlooking us or having some key injuries or plain ole sympathy. If none of this happens, it could be up there where Lions09 predicted.

North Alabama is a hotbed for basketball recruiting, mainly Madison county and surrounding areas... champagne and mccarter dont even look to recruit in those areas. They go straight to jucos. Instead of going right to our backyard, they want to go thru the rest of the countries pickings. It’s okay to recruit maybe two juco guys at most if they bring that X factor. You need some dogs right out of high school. Out of all 28 men’s and women’s basketball teams in the state championships, I believe around 10 teams or more played for a championship. That should tell you something. I never see any of our recruiters at the christmas and thanksgiving classics that are played

I try to have UNA apparel on if I'm not at work(uniform). It should be a little easier to get better recruits from the area just by being D1. Yeah, North Alabama is a hot bed, unfortunately, that usually means D2 schools miss out on them. And, yes, we need size, but don't look past guys that have the heart and will to do whatever it takes to win, just because he is not 6'5. Have been tons of 6'0-6'4 guys in the NBA because they have the work ethic.
