Whew. No game in Florence until October, and only 4 total. I wonder if there is still a chance to add a fifth home game? I was under the impression that we are allowed five D2 games if we want them. Of course, the D2 schools have to cooperate on that...
If we’re being realistic, what would be a “good” record with this schedule? 6-4? Maybe we can win the 4 Home games (though UWF will be tough), A&M? Incarnate Word just went 1-10 if google is correct. Maybe, MAYBE 7-3 if we can steal one of the others? Jackson State only won 3 games in 2017, so perhaps that’s another chance.
Honestly I’d be very happy with 7-3 and consider that a positive step for the future, especially if we can play Southern Utah and Campbell close and not get totally embarrassed by NDSU.
A healthy Blake Hawkins will probably be the factor in whether 7-3 (or better?) is possible.

A LOT will depend on the next 6 months. Due to the next signing period and the usual later additions, some of those "?" positions will be strengthened.

After that, the only 2 games we could struggle with is Southern Utah and West Florida. We should beat A&M, Campbell, Jackson St., Incarnate Word and the rest of the D2 schools. I think a healthy UNA team should beat West Florida and from games I have watched on replay of Southern Utah, they are not as good as you would think they should be, we could stroll out of Utah with a huge win. I say we go 8-2, possibly 9-1. Roar Lions.......

Then I say we invite the winner of the Ivy League to play a Bowl Game in Florence.

I’ll admit to being a bit of a pessimist. The QB situation scares me. If Hawkins comes back 100%, I think we can have a memorable season. We have as much talent as anyone who’s ever made this jump. I really think pulling off a win over Southern Utah or Campbell would be huge. If we were to make it out of September at 3-1... look out.
I actually looked at Campbell a little closer, and if I’m reading this right, 2018 is their first year in the Big South? Jeez, I didn’t realize that. They’ve been mediocre in the Pioneer league, which doesn’t offer scholarships. So the talent level may not be all that. That will be a very interesting matchup. I’m curious as to where they will be predicted to finish in the Big South this coming season. Their stadium capacity is only 5000, so our guys will have no reason to be intimidated.

We really don't know the QB situation, I would think anything is better than last year. I don't think Campbell will be able to hang with a half way decent UNA this year. Pulling off an upset vs Southern Utah will be great, and not impossible, they are not(or should not be) as talented as the JSU team UNA took to double overtime a few years ago. I know that's apples to oranges but watching some of their games, we saw more talent last year in several games. Plus they are overlooking us big time. (See their announcement of their schedule and read about UNA) West Florida may be the second toughest game on the schedule. That's the game that worries me the most.

I have noticed only 10 games. I thought Willis had said 11 possibly 12 games. Maybe have not closed on one, may be the reason it has not been officaly released yet?
Would love to see another D1 game, of course I would love to see JSU.

The one I read said something to the effect of, North Alabama is transitioning to FCS from D2, smart move by the SUU staff scheduling this one, easy win that counts toward an FCS game. I wish I knew where I read it so I can post it. I just figured it was their release.

I'm excited about the game in Huntsville. I'm sure the Pride of Dixie will be there and it will be a fun environment. Will be the only thing close to Florence in September.

Good news! I’m happy our guys, and fans, will have another home game. As for for a little not so good news... I’ll be honest, I had never heard of Azusa. I looked them up. They went 7-4 last year in the Great Northwest, but 3 of the 4 losses were to ranked teams (including a 1 point loss to Central Washington). However they beat Colorado Mesa, who was ranked #14 at the time. So they don’t exactly seem to be a cream puff. I hope our guys can shake off any weariness from the trip to North Dakota and get ready to go for APU. Well, I also hope we don’t have an emotional letdown after that big win over the defending champs Edit: Actually I goofed that up a bit. The GNAC teams play each other home and away. So APU actually lost to Central Washington twice and Humboldt State twice (Humboldt was ranked the second time they played).

Coach Shinnick at UWF was HC at Azusa for a few years before starting the program at UNCP.
