I am so pissed off at the Men's Basketball Team this week, losing to Mississippi College 97-88 and Delta State 61-55. We fouled the Choctaws WAY TOO MUCH, giving them too many chances at the free throw line, and of course they made 30 out of 36 FTs when UNA couldn't make a fucking free throw to save their life! Delta State was a defensive struggle and both games the Choctaws and the Statesman played keep away from the Lions. with a 7-6 record and 2-4 in the conference, I don't see how it will not be ANOTHER mediocre year with Bobby Champagne.

That's why I stopped going (after more than 45 years of rarely missing a game) a few years ago. The frustration became too much.

I don't know why I waste my time and energy following Men's Basketball. This program has a winning tradition, with 2 NCs and 7 GSC titles, yet our AD doesn't give a shit about it as long as football does well. Jesus.

Unfortunately the AD seems to be taking a "wait and see" approach to the D1 transition. As in, "wait and see" how bad it gets, or wait until we totally bottom out, before making a change. On one hand I get it. Not a lot of coaches will want to come into a situation where the team is already, well, pretty lousy, AND is making the jump up to D1. It's very possible men's basketball will stink for several years to come. Our new conference isn't overly tough, but jeez, we are struggling in the GSC. It's hard to be optimistic. At least basketball is one sport that can be turned around pretty quickly with a couple of impact players. Perhaps if we can ride out another 2 or 3 years with CBC (when we aren't eligible for the NCAA tourney anyway), we can be in a position to find someone that can breathe new life into the program. I do believe that's how the University is looking at it, right or wrong. This actually started in football, remember. We all like Coach Willis, and he may work out just fine, but it was a lazy hire, at best, for a school going through what we're about to go through. Again - maybe the list of candidates interested was pretty short due to our circumstances. Maybe they felt like the same issue would present itself in basketball.

Only go to the women's game....
Make a point, if the stands are full for the women's game and empty for the men, they will get the point.
You can talk till your blue in the face, but they are not going to change until you show you are serious. The good thing is, the men and women will probably not be playing the same nights after this year. So you won't have 1 ticket paying for both games. If you take money away they will change. Down side would be, who would want to coach a school who don't have fan support, especially a mid-major?

IMO, it's time for Linder to go. I'm drafting my letter to the President.

Really. I'm sure there would be a push to hire a woman for "diversity" which DOESN'T lead to excellence regardless of what the nut sacks say. Excellence is achieved by hiring the most qualified person for the job. If the person hired isn't the best then welcome to decades of mediocrity.

I don’t hate it. Could he be our Barry Alvarez? I feel like BA has done a good job at Wisconsin. Does Bobby have any desire to do it, though? I know nothing, but I got the feeling he was ready to enjoy retirement. Of course, successful coaches can rarely be very happy just doing nothing. All that being said, I’m not sure Linder is going anywhere. Maybe if another job comes calling, but I doubt the University sees a reason to push him out.

Pretty sure this season is fizzling out for the Lions. It was a rush to beat USA in the exhibition game and now at 8-7, with 5 of those wins coming against sub-par opponents.
How does DI affect hoops scholarships?

How does DI affect hoops scholarships? It's extremely embarrassing for the program to go out sucking in D2. Troy built a powerhouse team for their last season in D2, taking full advantage of the D1 brand making them a more attractive destination. They were the hardest W the Lions had in their second run to the National Championship. Not only are we not making a NATIONAL title run, we aren't even going to make a GSC run!

How does DI affect hoops scholarships? In D2 you have 10 scholarships for men. In D1 you have 13, but in D1 it is a head count sport.
