For those who may not know the schools in the Big South that play football, I will give some insite. I followed the conference for a few year because I had a feeling this is were UNA would end up. And I feel it is the best conference UNA could end up with all around.
Kennesaw State- Close to Atlanta, very nice stadium, building a new football program that has been successfull. They are also a member of the A-Sun, so with proximity and being in both conferences, UNA and Kennesaw will more than likely (aand they are excited about it) become our main conference rivalry.
Liberty- a huge Christian school, in Virginia, has a great FCS program, great stadium and they are also looking forward to UNA being in the conference. They are usually in the top of the conference. Huge fan base, will be good for our home games because they travel well.
Charleston Southern- has become a power in FCS and has made the playoffs the past few years. Small stadium, but nice. Should be in top 3 in the conference year in and year out.
Presbyterian College- not to rag them but they are kinda the bottom of the conference, FIT beat them pretty handedly and could have been worse. But they have a nice place and could be on the upswing.
Gardner Webb- kinda stays in the middle of the conference, has upset some good teams. Again a nice but small stadium.
Monmoth- middle of the road, they are in New Jersey, don't know if they plan to stay in the Big South or try to join a closer conference but they are building a bran new stadium. I don't know how many of us will travel to NJ but it could be fun? They are a Big South football associate only.
Campbell- will be joining the Big South at the same time we do for football. They play in the Pioneer League witch is non scholarship at the moment. Don't know a lot about them but their stadium is nice and again small. But they have a good fan base and will probably be competitive.
All in all I think UNA will immediately do well in this conference. Not saying we will win it immediately but very competitive. I think we will automatically strengthen the conference and could soon (after the transition) see multiple playoff teams from the conference. I think we will automatically develop a new rivalry with Kennesaw and eventually develop a rivalry with Liberty. Add that to JSU and hopefully A&M and I think it is just what UNA has been wanting. I am extremely excited.
