What irritates me about the black uniform is I actually kinda like it, ha. Despite being the guy who started this thread. If they hadn't basically stripped gold off everything else, I'd probably vote for it. OR if they had simply put some gold trim on the black uni. It's obvious someone in the athletic department (most likely Looney himself) wants us to be purple/white/black, for some reason. Maybe some marketing grad told them it would sell merch better (since most of these things come back to money). The only other thing I can think of is the fact that Lipscomb is purple and gold and we want to establish a separate color scheme. Reasonable deduction says it's not Looney... this was going on before. I don't know if it's Kitts, or if a donor just don't like it. But I would say as long as Looney has a AD job, he don't care if it I'd gold or pink... he doesn't have a reason to care because he has no ties to the school other than his position. You're right, we were complaining before Looney was hired. I will say it's gotten "worse" since he's been here, but who knows if he's the reason. So maybe it's unfair for me to blame him. I will say that I've exchanged emails with him and he certainly doesn't seem to be enthusiastic about sticking to purple and gold. So there's that. But again, if the request is coming from above him, he's just doing what he's being encouraged to do.

Here’s what parents of athletes have said recently, “not a fan of the gold”. The other comments heard “Love the purple and white combination looks clean and sharp.” So guess the athletes and parents are ok with gold being eliminated. Gold needs to be an outline or shoelaces or something.

It's about continuity and staying true to your tradition of having a winning culture...what got you there and who you are. Purple and white lacks in that regard but can sure be tied to the last five years. 2) if I'm a marketing guru (I'm not necessarily but I am a UNA MBA) I'm including gold. Everybody and there brother's dog takes their primary color and uses white or black with it. Hey great, I can now sell three T shirts. Some might also add Grey. Now I can sell four T shirts. Why not throw in a color that is recognized with your school anyway...use gold. Now I can sell 5 T shirts. 3) Maybe someone has an idea to imitate Alabama with their primary and white. To that I say see #1 above. Just remember it took Nick Saban a decade (or there abouts) and a few years of purple and white to lose our title of the winningest football program in the state since the '90s. This is the Purple and Gold lions and it is about the Pride of the Lions!

Gold needs to be an outline or shoelaces or something. Living off of the fad of the day = Smoke and wind. Living off of your tradition and memories = roots and strength. I'm for the students and hope they do well and graduate from UNA. It is the traditions and memories that bring them back to help contribute to the schools future. It is the smoke and wind that let's them graduate and never look back. Don't forget most of the derriers found in the seats are there because of tradition and memories.

We aren’t winning many games in most sports with the players that prefer purple and white or black. Maybe the ones that appreciate gold could also win more.

I have been hesitant to bring this up, but I think it's time...
While talking to Dr. Looney about the Stadium, I asked about where we are at on Gold, or the lack there of. He basically said that he, nor Kitts, nor the coaches have any problem about incorporating Gold into logos and uniforms. He also understands that several complaints from a handful of people like myself have been made. But, he said that the athletes, students and even the majority of alumni and fans have been vocal about using it sparingly.
He said I assure you Gold is still in our colors, but until the majority gets on board with using it more, you will only see it as minor accent colors on some uniforms like what we have on football jerseys. He also said that would be up to the team itself.
He did say however, the reason for the Logo change was that the different sports was all over the place on what they was using and it needed to be more uniform across the board. So it doesn't matter what sport you are with, you will use the same logos.

As an alumni, I can honestly say I have never been asked by Looney, Kitts, anyone one else representing UNA or acting in behalf of, my opinion on the color gold, purple, white, black, and or grey. I humbly ask how this majority of alumni was derived? Oh, and as a fan I have also never been asked. Saying it doesn't make it so. Where's the beef? Show the documentation and state how it was obtained.

Thanks for the info, Brandon. Really appreciate you for that.
I'm with tuna... I don't remember being asked whether I want gold removed or not. It's such a strange situation, really. I don't have a problem with players and/or coaches being involved in uniform design. They're wearing them. And again, I wouldn't even have so much of a problem with black or grey alternate uniforms or whatever else, so long as they still have some purple and gold. You'd think the university would care enough to make sure every team looks like UNA.
I think at least part of all this is to make ourselves distinct from Lipscomb. You have Lipscomb with purple and gold, UCA mostly purple and black, and us mostly purple and white. I'm not saying that's a good reason for it, but I think that's a factor. It's easier for the administration to just say "people" wanted this instead of defending why we're surrendering our colors to another school.

Yall should have seen the look on my face when he said that... lol I don't remember getting the survey either... but I have sent him various emails on the subject so I just figured they may not have wanted to get a redundant answer...
Let's say he knew I didn't like that answer.
You know, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with, "we are going to add a couple of colors to our palette along with purple and Gold" instead of just shying away from Gold.

We don't need to be purple and white like Central Arkansas, Tarleton, Abiline Christian and SFA!

I actually found some old football photos from the late 50s and early 60s... Gold was just as dominant as purple. I don't know... I guess the newer generations really don't care about tradition and pride anymore.

If I had to guess, we have signed a contract for uniforms that was a mistake (from a color standpoint) and we can't get out of it. Just as likely we have spent money for this mistake and do not have the money to go out and buy replacement uniforms at this time. Something to embarrassing to admit and own up to so let's deflect. Again, just a guess. Hey! Asking for a friend. What do you think will be the primary colors of Bank Independent Stadium? Be a shame, after all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth regarding the lack of our colors at Braly, to end up with the same situation at the new place. Hmmm.....
