It is very true that the full marching band cannot be in and play in the current band room at the same time right now. It is wall to wall even to have a meeting with 0 instruments in the room. There are also large storage issues with the current space, and much of the equipment has to be disassembled to fit through doors. The band outgrew the current space MANY years ago. This new facility is very needed.
The new space also addresses a shortage of teaching spaces like classrooms and faculty teaching studios (where all of the private lessons are held - the music department is actually currently split up among different buildings because of space), along with adding a recital hall, which UNA does not currently really have (the current recital hall is a former kitchen, that actually lacks the elevator access for a lot of instruments to even get to in order to perform in it).
