Even though she was not my first choice, she was on my personal list.
She didn't have a great career at Texas Tech but she did improve them from what I can tell. I don't pretend to know the circumstances there. Did they give her what she needed? Was there a beef with TTs administration and her? If an AD doest get along with a coach, it can translate on the floor and make the coach look bad. I don't know.
Apparently Looney saw something in her the first time and she proved it at Missouri Western. Apparently she sees something in North Alabama or she probably wouldn't leave a D2 powerhouse for a near bottom D1 program.
I've watched some video on her and she is very aggressive in her coaching style, if we thought Tiber was an angry pomeranian, then she is an angry German Shepherd. She get intense.
Hopefully she brings the program to the level of FGCU. Be nice to see UNA and FGCU be a huge game nationally.

I’m a little underwhelmed with getting a coach from D2 but we’ll see how it plays out. I know she played and was the HC for Texas Tech but the record wasn’t impressive. She’s done well at MoWest. I see that Looney is who hired her at MoWest. Makes more sense now. Looney seems to have a knack for hiring coaches that he employed at Missouri Western or have some sort of ties to the state of Missouri.

I asked the D2 folks about her and I have kinda chuckled but also been calmed. www.d2football.com/forum/forum/basketball/central/central-aa/821240-2024-offseason-coaching-carouselSome of the replies: "She’s a few rhinestones and frills from Kim Mulkey?" "She did pretty good here in the MIAA. Some coaches werent fans of her. She's got a little bit of that Mulkey vibe to her that frustrated some. Seemed to do well in the low majors, just couldnt get that same success at the P5 level. I think she'll do pretty good" “ I'm just simply jealous.” "Ha, I guess I understand saying Candi has a Mulkey vibe, but I wouldn’t agree. She will be missed here for sure. Wish she would have stuck around a little longer, but it’s hard to fault her for jumping back to D1 and reuniting with the AD that got her back into coaching." If Candi Whitaker's "Mulkey Vibe" translates to us winning anywhere close to the consistency of Kim Mulkey then I'm in.

Candidates I would target first: 1. Candi Whitaker - Missouri Western 2. Deandra Schirmer - Valdosta State 3. Randa Gatling - Assistant at USI Schirmer was hired by Chattanooga after Clemson hired their coach away.

I haven't got to meet Whitaker yet, but a friend of mine has and he said she is extremely nice and outgoing, almost to the point to where he thinks it's fake...
He did say she seems very appreciative for the opportunity and was asking lots of questions about local schools and recruiting them. So I guess she wants to do a lot of recruiting local.
