Classy statement from Tiber. I told Dr. Looney in my email that I no doubt thought she and Harlow are good people with a lot of basketball knowledge but it just wasn't getting it done in the ASUN. I hope they both land in jobs quickly. I think Coach Harlow deserves a shot at being the head coach somewhere. "I'm thankful for my time here at UNA and for those who believed in us," said Tiber. "It's been an honor to coach and mentor so many wonderful young ladies. I am thankful for the Shoals community and the many people who I have built lifelong relationships with. UNA will always have a special place in the hearts of Zeke, Lola and I." Utah State's looking for a head coach.

Thankful for Tiber guiding us through the transition and her loyalty to UNA athletics as a whole. Hope she lands in a job where she too can get a fresh start. Excited for the next hire and energy that hire will bring. Looney, I think, is very solid in his approach to hiring a coach. He likely has been watching quite a few potential candidates as the year unfolded.

He likely has been watching quite a few potential candidates as the year unfolded. I did notice her commitment to UNA and the community was stellar. In all the photos where they to around town to certain businesses and organizations, it was always a mix of the coaches. But, she was always there. Maybe she liked photo ops? Lol. Just kidding. I watched her a lot. She and Harlow were good in the sidelines. She loved to give the refs hell and cost us a few games with untimely technicals. But she was rarely wrong on what she was complaining about. She schooled every ref during every game on how she wanted the game called. Lol. I loved it and will miss the “angry Pomeranian” (as that TikTok guy called her!) in some ways. I’m still mad they didn’t make a run at the natty our last season in D2 with the Wallens. The commentators at UCA said she had used that scenario (beating a team badly twice in the regular season only to lose to them in the tournament) as a way to motivate the team this week. That story made me mad all over again!! Lol.

FGCU just beat UCA by 29 points to win the tournament. Looney has a big task to find someone who can assemble a team to compete with them.

I’m a little underwhelmed with getting a coach from D2 but we’ll see how it plays out. I know she played and was the HC for Texas Tech but the record wasn’t impressive. She’s done well at MoWest. I see that Looney is who hired her at MoWest. Makes more sense now.

Hiring D2 coaches is a trend for small mid major programs... P5 and upper womens basketball programs D1 assistants even for Womens basketball probably make more than Tiber and Whitaker...

I just know some D1 assistants also take less money to be a head coach. I’m hoping this is a home run hire. I’m eager to see what kinda style her teams play.

I'm not upset about the hire. My deal is we are competing with FGCU... not APSU, not Lipscomb, not Stetson or UNF.
We have to be the one to compete with FGCU and to me, the coach needed to come from FGCU.
But who knows, she may well be a "Game changer".
She's got 4 years to prove it.

Samford went high school and was within one awful call of upsetting Kansas. I will wait till she gets her recruits and system in place. If she recruits some height right out the gate I will be a fan.

I asked the D2 folks about her and I have kinda chuckled but also been calmed. www.d2football.com/forum/forum/basketball/central/central-aa/821240-2024-offseason-coaching-carouselSome of the replies: "She’s a few rhinestones and frills from Kim Mulkey?" "She did pretty good here in the MIAA. Some coaches werent fans of her. She's got a little bit of that Mulkey vibe to her that frustrated some. Seemed to do well in the low majors, just couldnt get that same success at the P5 level. I think she'll do pretty good" “ I'm just simply jealous.” "Ha, I guess I understand saying Candi has a Mulkey vibe, but I wouldn’t agree. She will be missed here for sure. Wish she would have stuck around a little longer, but it’s hard to fault her for jumping back to D1 and reuniting with the AD that got her back into coaching."

Not sure how to feel about the hire. Looney hiring someone he's already hired once is not necessarily a bad thing, but how often do "comfortable" hires work? Chris Willis was a comfortable hire, too.
That being said, she's obviously figured out something that works at MWU. Hopefully that's able to translate to what we need to do here.
