This deals with FBS schools mostly.
Division 1 Membership requirements The council also adopted changes to membership requirements for Football Bowl Subdivision schools that:
* Eliminate Attendance Requirements at FBS schools (effective immediately)
* Increase the application fee for transferring from FCS to FBS from $5,000. To $5 million (effective immediately)
* Require all FBS programs to provide 90% of the total number of allowable scholarships over a two-year rolling period across 16 sports, including football, FBS schools will also be required to fund 210 scholarships each year, amounting to no less than than $6 million annually (effective August 2027)
* For schools that begin transitioning to FBS in 2024-25 or later, requirements must be met by the conclusion of the transition period.

It’s interesting how all the rules except the first one seem to be geared toward discouraging any other schools from moving up. It is what it is. I’d love to be in a conference with JSU, Troy, and a few other southeastern teams, whether it’s called FCS or FBS or whatever else. But unfortunately it doesn’t seem likely anytime soon. I sincerely wish we had followed those two in the early 90s, but… oh well. I don’t think we’re in a bad spot now with the UAC. Hopefully the teams we have will stay, and if we add Valdosta and UWF in the coming years, it can be a fun little eastern division.

Yeah, this will put the breaks on for some schools while others will make it work whenever the time comes for them. Even the APSU AD recently said that the $5M fee would not deter them. But, he could be all talk. We shall see.

So you can now build a tiny stadium with fewer people, but you got to pay $5,000,000? Maybe saving money on stadium expansions and updates is equal to $5,000,000 for some programs with existing facilities in place? We still got a ways to go, we are improving in many areas. Our family will get a close look Saturday, excited for the visit in a different capacity.

This will stop 98% of FCS schools from moving to FBS... not just the 5 mil, but the scholarship money.
Maybe some oil money can do it, but I doubt it.
Let's work on a few things,
1- Samford, we need to have an in state rival.
2- renew Chattanooga.
3- be nationally competitive.
The ASUN/UAC is where we need to be. I'm watching JSU play MTSU and it's worse that the bottom of the MAC... don't need that crap.

Got to thinking, does the scholarship deal force some current FBS schools to consider moving to FCS?
Can JSU afford it?
UL Monroe and some others have to be thinking hard right now.
Half the MAC?
IDK, just a thought
