I'm glad the band was able to do their thing Saturday even in the crazy heat. They were featured on ESPN a lot that day in the cutaway shots during the game.

Was watching the broadcast from the UT-Martin game. The band left early?? That is terrible and embarrassing. I have also heard they are doing it again in October. The UNA band needs to support the UNA football team. People across the country are laughing at us over this.

Nobody's laughing about it, unless they are clueless....

I have heard LOTS of people complaining. You don't see Alabama, Jacksonville State, Samford or any other bands leaving a football game for a competition. That is just having the wrong priorities. It is embarrassing to a lot of people who have voiced their concern to the administration. I hope Kitts puts a stop to this next year.

UNA has done it for years. They ain't going to stop doing it because it gets the area band kids interested in UNA. Nothing to complain about.

From Dr. Jones:
Hello All! The UNA Marching Pride is in its last week of rehearsals as well as what may very-well be last rehearsals on what has come to be known as Pride Field. Since 1953 the UNA Band has held practice on this same plot of ground on Pine Street. At times the field faced north, and for the past 45 years it has faced the east. Thousands of musicians, majorettes, Lionettes, and color guard members have marched the drills on this dirt. Thousands have driven by, stopped to watch, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the UNA Band. The Marching Band with the Symphonic Sound, the Pride of Dixie, and now the Marching Pride have perfected their shows on this turf.
With plans to break-ground on the new UNA stadium next summer, Thursday, November 16, at 2pm ("Band O'clock") may very well be the last time the UNA Band is on this field. Plans for a new band rehearsal facility out at Cox Creek Fairgrounds have been discussed, recently.
If you would like to come out and see the last run of the 2023 production, "Night and Day", meet us at Pride Field around 2pm as we prepare to travel to Florida State University for our last performance. We would enjoy performing for you! - LEJ

Maybe it isn’t a big deal to the band members, but it seems silly for them to have to go to Cox Creek Park to practice. I really wish UNA could acquire some land adjacent to campus. Of course, that would probably mean buying houses just to tear them down. There’s not a great solution.

According to my best friends daughter, who is in the band (freshman) she says everyone is excited about a new facility with parking... so there is that.

Maybe I'm over-estimating the number of kids that live on campus or want to stay on campus 24/7. So if groundbreaking on the stadium is next summer... perhaps it would be ready for the 2025 football season? Or is a year too aggressive of a timeline? Maybe baseball in the spring of '26 and football that year?

If everything goes to plan maybe 2 years, but any rain more than anticipated it will go longer. I was always told, until you hit a certain point in building process, a day of rain puts you a week behind. I would think you see a groundbreaking on the band facilities and finish it before they start on the stadium.
