Sigh. Had a chance to tie it and KJ couldn’t get it done. UTM beat EKU but still. UNA should have won this game.

Saw Howell on the bench. I wonder if he is out till January? He plays maybe we win the game. He is actually tall enough to rebound. Fulcher isn’t moving like he is completely healthy or he is that slow on defense.

It also made me wonder if somehow he has to sit a semester or if he’s hurt.

One of the announcers is from Valdosta State, he knew about our live Lion mascot. Wow they make their mid range shots, of course they are wide open. Howell with another one his threes to give us some scoring. Lane is too small to score against this team, KJ appears slower than player guarding him. Forrest had a couple of moves, didn’t make the high oercentage shot. Defense we are not good this year.

Well don’t think I have seen KJ do that before? He shot an air ball on a 1 and 1 free throw. Our guys appear to be a little scared of this team. No rebounds, no offense being run by Lions. Shoot after one pass and nothing. They drive and pass and pass till somebody shoots a wide open 6 footer. Lucky to be within 15 points at the half.

Rough start for the men. Down by 15 at halftime. The opposite for the women. They are up by 10 at the half out in El Paso.

I was traveling yesterday and didn't get to watch the games, so if I'm wrong in my assessment, so be it. But it's definitely getting frustrating to watch us lose almost every non-conference road game. The women have fared a little better than the men, and it seems they had chances to win yesterday. They didn't, though. And other than the men winning at Ole Miss last year, which was awesome and a lot of fun... I'm struggling to think of many others.
Still some decent opportunities on the schedule for both squads to win on the road against some mid-majors, which should be the measuring stick. The women have Chattanooga, Arkansas State, and Samford. Men have Charleston Southern and Tennessee Tech. Hopefully having Dallas Howell back will help the men, since it seems he shot 50% from 3 yesterday.

Rebounding is the problem. Not enough size inside on either team to compete at the D1 level. The women lost after leading most of the game and shooting in over 50%. Yet, they were out-rebounded by 15. The men were out-rebounded by 17 and had an off day shooting especially in the first half. These two coaches aren’t getting it done on recruiting bigs. Same story, different season.

Even their commentators discussed how the Lions don’t really run plays on offense. They described it a “quantity over quality” and followed up by saying that’s fine if you’re hitting the shots. The Lions weren’t yesterday.

Same story, different season. Nailed it. One shot and done almost every offensive series, made or missed. Think our first offensive rebound was late in first half. That is terrible. I wish we ran some offensive plays to create open shots. We expect to win off the dribble and being so much smaller makes that task harder. Forrest is a decent rebounder, not great like Littles. Nelson is tall and strong looking but cannot rebound? I was hoping some of the 6’6 or 6’7” guys would be able to help with rebounding and defense. Terrible so far. Howell helped with some aggressive rebounds and blocks. Hopefully he will be the spark this team needs down the stretch. Our guards just aren’t strong enough to carry the team, they can complement it.

Streak is over. Ladies are struggling to resemble a basketball team. I fear Allie Craig Cruce will back out of joining now. She’s supposed to be added on the 9th at Chatty. We shall see. The Lions have players who fight hard but the turnovers were ridiculous today. The only positive was that they used India Howard as an actual inside/down low player today.
