I really love the concept of this development on the old ECM property.
Something like could actually draw me back in as a part-time resident. I’m trying my best to have a home there and here in Pensacola. Gotta dream, right!? Lol.

Well, that's certainly ambitious for Florence! Here in Chattanooga, and I know in Huntsville, probably Pensacola and a lot of other mid-size cities, you see these a lot. My wife and I have stayed in Providence in Huntsville a couple of times and love being able to go to dinner and walk back to our hotel. I'm sure the residents love it.
I'm really surprised there hasn't been more investment in downtown Florence, especially with housing. It's such a gem. I know before the pandemic there was talk of apartments, a grocery store, and other retail on the old Sears lot. That's a huge piece of property that has just sat there for years. I would love to see something happen there. In a few years I assume they'll take down the old parking deck off Pine Street, when the new one is built. That'll be another huge opportunity for something to happen. Wish I had the kind of money to help make some of these developments happen.

Micky Haddock wanted to make Court Street a walking only street and bring in more independent (mom and pop) businesses. When he made that plan, and presented the idea, the city basically shunned him.

Making it walking-only might be a stretch, but a lot of cities are putting streets like that on a "road diet" where they narrow or remove lanes and add wider sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. I could see that being a good idea, at least from Tennessee Street all the way to campus. It could be 2 wide lanes and not impede traffic much. Of course, this is a town that struggled with the idea of a roundabout, so... lol. I've worked in some city planning-adjacent fields so this kind of stuff is in my wheelhouse.
