Now, I’m seeing this: Trash Pandas, UNA to announce new event Monday The Rocket City Trash Pandas along with UNA and city representatives will be holding a press conference at 1 p.m. Monday at Toyota Field to announce a new event. Madison Mayor, Paul Finley, UNA representatives Ken Kitts and Josh Looney and Trash Pandas GM Garrett Fahrmann will announce the new event tomorrow. www.waff.com/2022/04/24/trash-pandas-una-announce-new-event-monday/

Interesting. Could football and baseball play there next year (or two), while UNA builds new stadium?? Would be really sending a message to Florence politicians, by not including them!

I’d kinda hate that, since they’re supposed to come to Florence for possibly the last time in a while. But it makes me wonder… could we work out a deal with the Trash Pandas so that we’d make more money from a full capacity stadium there vs. in Braly? Guess it depends on what the attendance could be configured for. I’d think it would at least need to be 15k to make sense over Braly. Though I guess that depends on what percentage of the gate we get. Could it be something like next year’s ASUN baseball tournament, with UNA as the host? Without a coaching change, might be the only way we get to the tournament

Maybe they'll announce that the baseball team will play all of their home games there while UNA builds them a new stadium haha

I think the announcement will be a yearly game at Trash Panda Stadium. 2022 will start with JSU game being played there. This is a shot at the city of Florence, as they have been one of the biggest hurdles in stadium talk... This would be moving the biggest game on 2022 schedule from Florence to Madison. Huge loss of revenue for the city.

This isn't a shot at you, unaman, because I could see this being true... but what is the point for UNA? If UNA wants to build a stadium, there is nothing stopping them, right? If I have read the contract with the school board correctly, they can opt out of Braly basically whenever they want. So the only way I can see this making sense is if UNA is trying to strongarm the board into selling them the stadium. And maybe that's true? I know that was obviously talked about a few months ago. I guess to build the football stadium we also need to move baseball, and maybe that depends on the city transferring some of the land next to softball. But it's not like baseball absolutely has to be at Cox Creek Park. There would have to be other options out there. I apologize if I'm interpreting this wrong.

UNA could theoretically do it on their own, but they want/need help from the city and want the city to partner in building the stadium. Share some of the revenue/costs of building. Most cities do this; however, from what I have been told, the city administration does not believe Florence can support 2 stadiums so they have shown no support/involvement in helping to build a stadium. I think UNA is strongarming the city of Florence and not the school board. I think they are saying, "If you don't help with the stadium, more revenue will leave Florence as the big games will be played at a "nicer facility" than Braly." Florence sold the land right next to softball to UNA last year. I saw preliminary plans for baseball stadium there, but I can't find the article anymore.

That's the answer I was looking for. For some reason I wasn't considering Florence would need to get involved, and that we would simply do it through bonds and private donations. But admittedly I'm in the dark about how a lot of that works.

Gross. The Oct. 15th game vs. JSU will be at Toyota Field.
