KROGER NAMED INTERIM HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH AT UNA
FLORENCE, Ala. -- Former LaSalle University head women's volleyball coach Andrew Kroger has been named as the interim head volleyball coach at the University of North Alabama.
The announcement was made Monday by UNA Interim Athletic Director Kevin Haslam.
Kroger, who has 11 years of Division I coaching experience, joined the LaSalle program in 2014 as an assistant coach and was eventually promoted to head coach in 2019. He led LaSalle to the 2019 National Invitational Volleyball Championship, which was the first post-season appearance in program history. Following the 2021 spring season, LaSalle dropped its volleyball program, along with six other sports.
A graduate of Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Kroger began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Villanova University in 2011.
"The University of North Alabama is blessed beyond measure to get a person and coach the caliber of Coach Kroger," Haslam said.
"Our volleyball student-athletes, a group of remarkable young women, are very important to us," he added. "We took the time to listen to what was important to them, what they were looking for in a coach, and we conducted our interviews accordingly. Coach Kroger exceeds their high expectations."
Haslam said that Kroger's previous experience will serve him well at UNA.
"Coach Kroger has proven he can adapt and thrive in adverse situations," Haslam added. I truly look forward to how our volleyball team will perform this fall under his leadership."
Kroger follows former UNA head coach Bob White, who retired in June due to health concerns after three seasons with the Lions.
"I would like to thank Kevin Haslam and the search committee for their belief in me," said Kroger. "Throughout this process, I've been blown away by the kindness of the UNA community. The volleyball program's tradition of success and the department's unwavering commitment to student-athlete well-being leaves no doubt in my mind that the future is bright. I'm honored to be a part of that process and can't wait to get started."
